Analyzes, processes, and audits a variety of complex department financial transactions connected to a diverse set of funding sources. Maintains the fixed asset module, which involves monitoring general ledger activity for investments in plant assets, additions and dispositions, and preparing journal entries as needed monthly, quarterly, and at year-end. Communicates with directors and managers regarding capital purchases and accurate asset information. Creates and properly affixes asset tags to designated assets and equipment, replaces tags, maintains asset records and performs field inventories by physically locating and identifying assets, updates asset records, investigates discrepancies and prepares loss or disposal reports. Assists with the preparation of financial audits, both internal and external, and provides financial expertise, financial management reports, analytical data and associated financial services. Requires ability to understand and apply Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board reporting requirements, and other local, state, and federal guidelines as they relate to fixed asset management. Reviews all lease agreements and subscription-based information technology arrangements (SBITA) to measure the lease/subscription assets and liabilities to appropriately account for these agreements in the lease management software in accordance with GAAP and GASB pronouncements. Coordinates the disposal of the college’s fixed assets and capital property. Performs other related tasks and projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Minimum Qualifications A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field 3+ years of responsible work experience in accounting positions; preferably in an educational institution, state agency, or auditing Proficient in Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and complex financial administrative information systems; ERP systems
Minimum Competencies Minimum Competencies Complete understanding of federal and state laws pertaining to financial records and guidelines. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications 6+ years of responsible work experience in accounting; preferably in an education institution or state agency Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field Experience in preparation of financial statements in accordance with governmental accounting standards board (GASB) and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and experience in preparation and coordination of supporting schedules for the year-end audit requirements Experience with Banner Preferred Competencies Preferred Competencies Extensive knowledge of higher educational institutions and/or state agencies, financial regulations and guidelines. Ability to work collaboratively with staff. Strong organizational, analytic, interpersonal, problem-solving, and customer service skills; ability to communicate orally and in preparing complex financial information to constituencies with varied levels of financial expertise High level of professionalism, motivation, enthusiasm, initiative, self-direction, and the ability to work under pressure and manage numerous deadlines simultaneously.
