Assistant Controller
Primary Purpose of Job
Responsible for management and oversight of daily accounting operations; analysis and preparation of monthly financial statements and annual audit work papers
Requirements
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance required ; Certified Public Accountant (CPA) a plus
+ 3-5 years’ experience in a similar position; NY State OPWDD/SED experience preferred
+ Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel
Essential Functions
+ Responsible for supervising Accounting staff including, but not limited to training and mentoring of all team members
+ Monthly entries and analysis for the affordable housing project
+ Annual entries and workpapers, etc. for the affordable housing project
+ Monthly analysis and entries related to ASC-842 lease accounting
+ Oversight of fixed asset/plant accounting processes
+ Oversight of the grants accounting process
+ Oversight and participation in all month-end close activities
+ Prepare monthly Statement of Financial Position, cash flows and financial ratios analysis
+ Ensure timely and accurate delivery of monthly financial statements
+ Periodic review of payroll and related entries in the general ledger
+ Periodic update of property analysis book
+ Prepare and review of CFR schedules, as needed
+ Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships
+ Assess current practices and procedures; make recommendations for improvements and implement where appropriate
+ Communicate with outside auditors and other regulatory officials, as needed
+ Other duties, as assigned.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Ability
+ Substantial reasoning skills required including the ability to identify the problem, interpret data, draw conclusions and pose a resolution.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Must have strong analytical skills and be able to work independently.
