Great American Financial Division co-ops quickly become an integral part of our financial reporting team. Our rotational program allows students to experience several departments in our organization by working in a new area each semester. This position consists of a full semester in up to four different departments such as Corporate Accounting, Investment Accounting, SEC Finance, and Internal Audit. The co-op will begin in Summer 2025 and is based in our Cincinnati, OH headquarters.

Corporate Accounting Department

Prepare schedules to support the monthly consolidated financial statements.Prepare monthly tax provisions and book general ledger entries.Assist with the preparation and distribution of the monthly earnings packages.Prepare annual/ quarterly statutory-basis statements and filings.

Investment Accounting Department

Prepare monthly closing package and supporting schedules, including cash and inventory reconciliations, for multiple subsidiaries.Record investment income and carrying values into the subsidiaries’ general ledgers.Analysis of investment results and investigation of variances.Prepare annual/ quarterly statutory-basis statements and filings.

SEC Reporting Department

Assist in the preparation of AFG’s SEC forms 10-K, 10-Q and 13-F, including preparation of supporting documentation.Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for the AFG managed collateralized loan obligations (CLOs) that are required to be included in AFG’s consolidated financial statements.Proofread and perform other clerical duties related to the preparation of AFG’s SEC forms 10-K and/or 10-Q.Prepare and/or review various internal management reports using Excel, the Company’s general ledger system, and SEC reporting system.

Internal Audit Department

Perform internal audits and review internal controls for effectiveness and efficiency.Test the reasonableness of financial balances and ensure compliance with statutory and generally accepted accounting principles.Prepare electronic audit workpapers in accordance with company and external audit standards.Inform the audit coordinator of the progress of assignments and discuss results and recommendations for improvement with audit team and company management.
