Accounting Intern

A Brief Overview
The Accounting Intern will support the accounting team with daily operations, financial reporting, and process improvement initiatives. This role provides hands-on experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, reconciliations, and general ledger functions. The Intern will gain exposure to how a finance and accounting department operates in a public utility environment.

 

Starting Wage: $20.07 per hour

This is an in-person position located in Fairbanks, Alaska. 

This is a temporary position for up to 1,000 hours. 

What you will do

Assist with bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliationsHelp prepare journal entries and maintain supporting documentationParticipate in month-end and year-end closing activitiesSupport audit sample requests and documentation preparationMaintain organized accounting files and recordsAssist with compiling financial data for internal reportsRun queries or exports from ERP/accounting softwareSupport data validation and clean-up projectsAssist with invoice processing, matching, coding, and obtaining approvalsHelp maintain AP files and prepare documentation for paymentsSupport AP month-end activitiesPrepare customer invoices and assist with payment applicationFollow-up on outstanding receivables as directedAssist with AR reconciliations and aging reportsAssist with special projects assigned by the Controller or accounting staffPerform general office tasks such as scanning, filing, copying, and document organizationParticipate in team meetings and provide status updatesLearn, adopt, and apply safety programs

Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives.

 

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent Current junior or senior enrolled full-time in an Accounting or Finance program. RequiredCurrent college-level junior or senior. Must have completed all Intermediate Accounting courses with at least a B-grade. Required1 year Office or accounting experience. PreferredBasic knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
