Accounting Manager

Essential Functions of the Job:

Supports the Controller in analyzing financial data and preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for the company, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP. Supports the Controller in developing and monitoring budgets, forecasts, and financial plans. Oversees the chart of accounts, general ledger, and reporting systems to ensure accuracy and compliance. Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Oversees cost accounting processes, including standard cost development, variance analysis, and inventory management. Ensures correct costing of all labor and materials and recommends corrective measures, as necessary. Reconciles financial discrepancies by collecting and analyzing transactional information. Helps to maintain and enhance internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial records. Assists with internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and corporate policies. Supports the Controller in analyzing, calculating, and updating the annual labor charges and overhead rates and the re-costing of purchased and manufactured parts. Helps to monitor inventory policies and procedures to ensure accurate accounting control of the flow of materials. Supports the Controller in coordinating all aspects of the annual physical inventory process. Takes responsibility for supporting the cycle count function. Oversees the credit and collections processes. Oversees the accounts payable and account receivable processes, ensuring timely processing and accurate record-keeping. Under the direction of the Controller, authorizes payment of invoices and resolves accounts payable/receivable discrepancies/delinquencies. Maintains documented system of accounting procedures and work instructions. Maintains an extensive knowledge and proficiency of business and accounting software as well as knowledge of the hardware. Works with the Controller to help to identify opportunities for process improvements and systems enhancements to increase efficiency and accuracy in financial performance and reporting. Additional duties as needed.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

Strong knowledge and understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and cost accounting principles. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial statements and reporting for the company. Ability to monitor inventory policies and procedures to ensure accurate accounting control of flow of materials. Able to coordinate all aspects of the annual physical inventory process. Knowledge and ability to support the Controller in preparing journal entries, accounting reports, forecasts, budgets, reconciliations, and other accounting activities. Understanding of and ability to maintain internal controls and safeguard the company assets. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries from regulatory agencies. Ability to oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and credit and collections. Proficiency in ERP, accounting, and payroll systems and advanced MS Excel skills. Experience with cost accounting and financial reporting software. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a strong attention to detail. Knowledge of manufacturing process and procedures including costing methods. Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey financial information to non-financial people. Ability to work independently and to plan, organize, and prioritize their own work and the workload of others. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and build effective working relationships. Establishes credibility and trust easily. Respects confidentiality and ethical standards of the position.  Able to multi-task with the ability to take on additional project assignments without sacrificing the accuracy and timeliness of the work output. Ability to work long hours as needed to complete work assignments and achieve deadlines. Willing to offer direction while accepting criticism, dealing calmly and effectively with high demand situations and being persistent in the face of obstacles while maintaining composure, and keeping emotions in check in difficult situations.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA preferred or equivalent experience. A minimum of five (5) years’ progressive work experience in accounting, with at least two (2) years’ experience in a manufacturing environment. Prior experience in a supervisory role is desirable.

 

Working Conditions:

This job operates in a professional office environment within a manufacturing facility.  The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers.  The position requires the ability to sit for an extended period while working on a computer.  This position will also require the ability to effectively move around the plant to oversee the inventory process and provide direction to staff members working in the plant.

Occasional lifting or moving objects up to 25 pounds, stooping, reaching, bending, and walking in and around the manufacturing plant.
