Position Summary: Our Barrie Transit team is seeking an Accounting Manager. The Accounting Manager manages the division’s financial activities; prepares or directs the preparation of reports summarizing and forecasting company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses and earnings, based on past, present, and expected operations. The Accounting Manager also oversees the AP/AR and payroll department to ensure accurate and timely completion.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

The Accounting Manager must be able to perform the following tasks, among others:
Prepares and ensures timely delivery of monthly billing to clientAnalyzes and prepares annual budgetsPrepares budget amendmentsReviews division financials to ensure Corporate profitability expectations are met; seeks ways to reduce costs or increase revenueAuthorizes the disbursement of funds, recognizes, and resolves issues promptlyConducts periodic studies to determine the effectiveness of current financial control methodsSupervises the maintenance of essential accounting records and filesMaintains a running analysis of accounts; recognizes and ensures entries in General Ledger entries are complete and accurate; advises of differences or discrepanciesLiaises with US Parent Company on a regular basis to provide financial updates and ensure matters are handled in accordance to Company policies and proceduresAddresses, reviews, compiles, and resolves matters regarding government remittancesAddresses, reviews, compiles, reconciles, and resolves issues regarding employee pension mattersOversees and analyses bi-weekly payroll to determine reasonableness and accuracyProvides direct daily supervision of Accounting & Payroll SupervisorIdentifies, selects, trains, coaches, and manages the performance of the accounting departmentClearly communicates each staff member’s roles and responsibilities and provides support to help staff accomplish assigned objectivesEnsures compliance with Company policies, client contracts and all governmental agencies or otherwiseImplements changes resulting from audits, reviews, or other examines by government or agencies to ensure complianceStreamlines accounting department and Company procedures to reduce costs, and ensure the smooth running of operationsRespects and maintains the confidentiality of all employee records, business records, client and customer information, data, and other information not otherwise available to the publicEnsures operations departments have complete and accurate reports to manage their respective departmentsAddresses human resource issues promptly, accordingly and following the principles of progressive discipline where appropriate, emphasizing corrective actions to improve individual performanceDetermine whether to discipline and apply discipline, including suspensions and terminations, according to company policy and, where applicable, in compliance with collective agreementsRepresents Company in grievance procedure with accounting/payroll related issuesMaintains a professional demeanor and appearance a providing consistent example to staffMaintains a safe work area and a focus on safety to reduce the opportunity for injury to self or other employeesSupports departments with special projects and providing back-up when requiredAll other duties assigned.
Working Conditions:
The Accounting Manager works primarily in an office environment. The Accounting Manager may be called upon after hours from time-to-time by managers, in an emergency, or other reasons as required. The job requires the following physical activities: sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, loading, and unloading, typing, filing, answering phones.
