Accounting Manager/Controller
Description We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager/Controller to join our team in Newton, Massachusetts. This is a Contract position ideal for someone with a strong background in construction accounting and financial management. The role offers the opportunity to oversee critical accounting functions and contribute to the success of construction projects through effective financial oversight. Responsibilities: • Manage all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, job costing, and general ledger activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards. • Collaborate with project managers to maintain accurate job costing and schedules, while identifying opportunities to improve project profitability. • Utilize construction-specific accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel techniques, such as pivot tables and macros, to perform detailed financial reporting and analysis. • Develop and monitor financial plans, analyze budget variances, and recommend strategies to achieve business objectives. • Prepare for audits, ensure accurate tax filings, and maintain compliance with construction industry regulations. • Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering growth and ensuring efficient collaboration. • Support contract management and billing processes using industry-standard software. • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of work-in-progress (WIP) metrics to provide insights into project performance. • Contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting systems and processes to optimize operational efficiency. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; advanced certifications such as CPA or CMA are preferred. • Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, with a focus on the construction industry. • Proficiency in construction accounting software and tools, including job costing, contract management, and billing systems. • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, macros, and data analysis. • Strong knowledge of work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and construction-specific financial practices. • Proven ability to prepare for audits and ensure compliance with tax and industry regulations. • Excellent leadership and team management skills, with a focus on mentoring and collaboration. • Detail-oriented and capable of handling multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment.
