About this position: This position provides general administrative support to the Student Accounts Department. The duties for this position will require various administrative tasks to ensure the timely receipt and recordation of all student payments, in person and across all eight (8) campuses of South Louisiana Community College. In addition, this position ensures the continuous cash flow of income for the college. EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. Job Concepts Function of Work: To provide limited support of accounting functions. Level of Work: Experienced. Supervision Received: Generally from higher-level fiscal or administrative positions. Supervision Exercised: None. Location of Work: May be used by all state agencies. Job Distinctions: Differs from Accounting Technician by lack of responsibility for preparation of basic-level financial reports. Differs from Accounting Specialist 1 in that the duties are more complex in nature. Examples of Work 75% Collects and records cash, check and money order payments for all tuition and fees from the entire student population. Receives and records cash, check and money order payments from outside campuses. Receives and records all payments from third party vendors including, but not limited to, payments for scholarships, tuition reimbursement and transcript fees. Reconciles the proper amount of cash in personal cash drawer daily. Maintains petty cash for the culinary department and requests change when necessary. Monitors balances and removes holds on student accounts where account is paid in full. Places holds for any past due balances per supervisor instruction. Places phone calls to students prior to drop for non-payment deadline each semester. Maintains all fines and rental fees (library, laptop, etc.); posts to student accounts and communicates with students. Maintain cash deposit books used by the Accounting Department for monthly reconciliation Answers all phone calls that come in on Student Accounts main line. Monitors and maintains Student Accounts voicemail. Maintains current knowledge and skills related to the duties and responsibilities of position. 15% Assists students with general questions regarding BankMobile and Cashnet. Works independently on special and ongoing projects. Demonstrates a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. 10% Assists the Director and Associate Director of Student Accounts with program development and strategic planning. Monitors priorities and progress toward departmental goals. Any additional duties assigned by the Director, Associate Director or Vice-Chancellor.
