These responsibilities will include but not be limited to month end reporting, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable reporting. The Accounting Specialist will be required to be compliant with corporate policies and procedures while maintaining accounting controls. The position will work under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor. The candidate will report out of the Milton facility. Your Responsibilities include: • Preparation of month end journal entries • Involved with co-ordination of month end close • Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts for both operational and corporate ledgers • Assist in backup for preparing monthly rolling projections 12-18 months into future for reporting unit for an operating ledger • Preparation of final month-end reports for various stakeholders • Financial analysis and explanation of actual results variance to prior year, rolling projections, plans, etc • Preparation and analysis of freight data and allocations • Coordination of benefit accounting allocations and journal entries • Develop lean accounting concepts to complement lean initiatives in operations and in the office • Assist in the development of budgets and business plan • Special projects for various high-performance teams as required • Assisting with ad hoc internal and corporate analysis • Assist with yearly internal control compliance Education Requirements • University Degree or College diploma in Accounting, Commerce or equivalent • Actively pursuing CPA designation (preferred) Experience and Skills • Prior experience (co-op or full time) in an accounting environment is required • Professionalism and integrity • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills • Team player – possess the ability to work effectively with others • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (G.A.A.P) • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word) • Knowledge of productivity-enhancing tools (Power Query, RPA) is valuable • Leadership, teamwork, conflict-resolution skills • Ability to coordinate, multi-task, and adhere to strict timelines • Independence and confidentiality
