We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to join our growing Finance team. Reporting directly to the Senior Finance Manager, you will be an integral part of a small team of four. To thrive at Smarkets, you will need to be open-minded, personable, and have a keen eye for detail, with the ability to analyze and communicate insights from data.
About You Proficiency in Excel Excellent attention to detail Excellent organisational skills A strong ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment A methodical and focused approach to working in a fluid and flexible work environment Good communication skills 1+ years of public practice experience Experience with Xero accounting software is desirable Experience with working with auditors - desirable but not essential Part-qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) - desirable but not essential Degree in Accounting or related business field - desirable but not essential Have worked or are curious to work in an agile, start-up like environment Have experience or are keen to work in a multi-disciplinary team/across different teams Responsibilities Prepare and enter AP invoices into the accounting system Review and reconcile bank statements on a regular basis to ensure accuracy Perform accounts payable (AP) balance sheet reconciliation and resolve any issues arising (e.g. requesting VAT invoices to clear debit balances) Review open Purchase Orders and determine if they should be closed or deleted Ensure all supplier accounts are reconciled against supplier statements Assist in preparing and scheduling payments in accordance with company policies Handle daily vendor payment queries to ensure timely internal and external communication Review all staff expenses, send for manager approvals and ensure prompt payments Monitor daily cash flows, ensuring sufficient funds are available for operations Provide weekly and monthly reports to regulated gaming authorities, ensuring compliance with regulations Support the Senior Finance Manager in the preparation of monthly Management Accounts, including posting journal entries Assist in the Financial Audit process by gathering required documentation and providing support during audits Our Values Push to win Make others better Give a shit Be a pro Bring the energyOur values are at the heart of everything that we do.
