We have an exciting opportunity for a talented Accounts Payable (AP) Specialist to join the Accounting division of our Finance and Accounting group at General Atomics located in San Diego (Torrey Pines).
Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for performing a variety of highly complex accounting support tasks in an accounting department. Verifies accuracy of accounting documents or records.
Updates and maintains accounting journals, ledgers, cash balance, and other records detailing financial business transactions (e.g., accounts receivable, disbursements, expense vouchers, payrolls, receipts, accounts payable).
Reconciles records with employees and management, external vendors, or customers. May reconcile bank and financial statements/reports.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:**
+ Execute weekly check run
+ Perform duties relevant to the SAP administrator function
+ Act as the ActivePay administrator for GA Corp AP division
+ Manage the GA Corporate AP Helpdesk email box
+ Assist with month end journal entry preparation as need
+ Execute voids in SAP as requested
+ Run Wells Fargo positive pay script; assist in testing of automated process with IT
+ Clear wires transacted by GA Treasury
+ Prepare annual 1099 forms for AP COE
+ Recommends actions to resolve discrepancies and investigates questionable data.May help design, modify, install, and/or maintain accounting systems to ensure an adequate recognition of financial transactions.May be responsible for the adherence to and communication of accounting and auditing policies and procedures.Interacts frequently with outside representatives and/or senior level internal contacts.
**ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:**
+ Performs highly complex accounting support tasks in an accounting department.
+ Prepares analysis of highly complex general ledger accounts for multiple corporations.
+ Prepares various journal vouchers allocating cost to appropriate projects/accounts.
+ Coordinates and participates in the research and analysis of accounting and financial data.
+ Performs complex analysis, budgeting, and reporting for assigned projects and/or programs.
+ Ensures compliance with departmental and company policies and procedures.
+ Ensures accounting files and records are accurate and up to date.
+ Enters data into computer systems using defined computer programs and procedures which may or may not be well established.
+ Compiles data and prepares a variety of highly complex reports. May present findings to professional staff and/or management.
+ Recommends improvements and/or changes to processing methods and techniques.
+ May act as primary contact for inquiries from internal and external representatives.
+ May provide direction and guidance to other accounting support staff.
+ Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

**Job Qualifications:**
+ Typically requires a high school diploma and eight or more years of progressive experience in an accounting department or a related field.
+ May substitute additional experience in lieu of education.
+ Must have excellent knowledge of computer operations and applications and proficiency with spreadsheets.
+ Must be accurate, reliable, and able to handle numerous bank accounts in an efficient and expedient manner.
+ Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a wide range of unusually difficult problems.
+ Must have good communication, computer, documentation and interpersonal skills.
+ Must be able to work independently and as part of a team and capable of effectively interacting with professional staff.
+ Able to work extended hours as required.
