About the State Comptroller's Office:
The mission of the State Comptroller’s Office is to carry out the constitutional responsibilities of the Comptroller by: Informing the public about the Indiana State government’s finances; Maintaining the State’s financial records and reports and paying the State’s bills and employees accurately and efficiently; Taking a leadership role in the development of the State’s financial policy; Upholding the public’s trust and confidence by ensuring that Hoosier’s tax dollars are accounted for and spent transparently; Serving as a check and balance within the executive branch to sustain accountability among state and local governmental entities and; Providing quality customer service to all who conduct business with the State of Indiana.
Role Overview:
Incumbent serves as an ACFR Accountant for the Office of Indiana State Comptroller preparing the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), detailing the State of Indiana’s financial position. The ACFR Accountant assists the Accounting and Reporting Department with ensuring the accuracy of the reporting of financial data for the state.

The salary for this position is commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
+ Prepare the state’s ACFR in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as promulgated by the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards in accordance with audit deliverables.
+ Work with the ACFR manager to implement new accounting standards and best practices
+ Coordinate submissions from state agencies and component units
+ Educate state agencies and component units on accounting standards
+ Prepare reports, account reconciliations, and account analysis as needed to ensure the accuracy of the general ledger.
+ Perform related duties as assigned.
What You'll Need for Success:
+ Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting required
+ 5 years of government financial reporting, or 2 years of government auditing experience.
+ 2 years of experience with Peoplesoft Financials preferred, specifically query manager and journal creation
+ Active Certified Public Account (CPA) certification preferred
+ Understanding and application of government GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), including hierarchy, and the use of GASB’s online Research System (GARS).
+ Capable of analyzing financial data and utilizing it to prepare accruals and reconciliations, considering GAAP and applicable Indiana Code.
+ Possess organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
+ Effectively communicate in a courteous and tactful manner.
+ Ability to foster cooperation and responsiveness with all parties involved in the preparation of the ACFR, including state agencies and component units.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word).
+ Use of the Workiva platform to prepare the ACFR preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
