Position Summary
The Activities Specialists are responsible for enhancing the quality of life and well-being of residents by offering meaningful and enjoyable activities that promote physical, mental, and emotional health. This role requires creativity, empathy, and a passion for enriching the lives of others through recreational and social engagement. They will also perform other duties as required.
Essential Duties
Works with interdisciplinary teams in program development, implementation and regular review of programming for all levels of care. Design and develop programs that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being among participants. Support relationships with external organizations, community groups, and volunteers to enhance program offerings and community engagement opportunities. Responsible for overseeing internship programs where applicable. Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of programs through resident feedback, attendance, engagement, and outcome assessments. Stay current with trends and best practices in recreational therapy or related fields through professional development opportunities. Obtain relevant certifications or credentials to enhance skills and knowledge in activity planning and implementation. Responsible for creating a supportive environment for successful engagement in programs and activities which can include room set up. Communicates opportunities throughout the community to residents, staff, and family members, encourages resident participation and involvement. Creates opportunities for socializing, fostering meaningful connections, and providing activities and adaptations as needed that engage all participants. Address concerns timely communication and when needed will refer any issues to appropriate department. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to integrate activities into resident care plans. Meet individually with residents to encourage and promote engagement in leisure and community programming. Ensure the safety of participants during activities by following safety protocols and guidelines. Keeping accurate records of participation, feedback, and any incidents that occur during activities is essential. Responsible for documenting attendance, noting any changes in participants' behavior or preferences, and reporting concerns to supervisors. Provide support for the MDS assessment process, including completion of surveys and assessment documentation as needed. Participates in the care planning process (where applicable).Qualifications
Qualifications include:
Minimum 2 years' experience in a recreation or activities environment or related field. Experience in CCRC setting preferred. Knowledge of MDS and regulatory experience preferred.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation, or related field or ADC certification with at least 2 years of experience required
Licensure/Certification:
CTRS or equivalent preferred; position specific certification required
