Actuarial Analyst
Manulife Business Processing Services (MBPS) is a global resourcing organization for Manulife Financial, a leading multinational financial services company headquartered in Canada, operating as John Hancock in the United States and as Manulife in the rest of the world.
The MBPS Actuarial department provides actuarial services to Manulife business areas across Asia and North America, specializing in model validation, experience studies and valuation work. In addition to providing exciting work in the actuarial field, our Actuarial Development Program also offers strong support and incentives for writing Society of Actuaries (SoA) exams, as well as the opportunity to rotate periodically into new roles to gain a broader knowledge and experience base.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics
Strong knowledgeable in various actuarial concepts and their application to life insurance – probability, interest theory, life contingencies.
Demonstrated strong quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills.
Ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts clearly and concisely both orally and in writing to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Strong interpersonal skills; good team player.
Can perform tasks with minimal supervision and demonstrated ability to work well under pressure.
Demonstrated strong knowledge in database software and Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of VBA macros and actuarial modeling software (e.g. GGY Axis) is preferred but not required.
Driven to attain designation in any recognized actuarial organization (e.g. SoA, ASP). Has passed at least three (3) SoA preliminary exams.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities Described:
Has direct ownership of insights activities for Term and CI, products aligned to mass market initiatives
Proactively executes required tasks based on competitor actions for owned portfolio, including creating comp alerts, updating rate tables, product feature comparisons; updates to repositories
Runs rate illustrations using LifeGuide and competitor illustration tools; understands required inputs and outputs.
Organize and manipulate data in Excel to be able to identify findings; identify and write formulae to conduct analyses; builds appropriate output for audience groups in PowerPoint.
Has working knowledge and supports requests for non-owned portfolios, via similar accountabilities as owned, as needed for team coverage or support broader strategic initiatives.
Owns compilation and dissemination of semi-monthly bulletin.
Independently identify relevant competitor activities for all insurance and GIP products, industry trends, etc for the team
Apply judgement to decide whether deeper analysis is warranted and completes comp alerts accordingly for owned portfolio and makes suggestions to team for non-owned portfolios.
Posts articles with detailed but concise summaries and implications independently for owned portfolio and facilitates handling for non-owned topics.
Actively contributes to the New Business Review
Familiar with LIMRA files; able to extract needed data for reporting purposes and to run adhoc queries to satisfy requests
Owns monitoring of team mailbox, comprehends content and identifies actions for self and/or team
Identifies action items from business partner requests from direct communication or in the team mailbox. Owns handling through having a deep understanding of owned portfolios.
Builds and maintains relationships with portfolio contacts in product, pricing, marketing, distribution, etc and is the prime contact for owned portfolios.
Formal Description:
Actively gather, analyseand disseminate competitor intelligence and derived insights, for topics including, but not limited to, products, distribution, operations, marketing, etc., for assigned product line(s) and/or associated with a key target segment in insurance, as well as demonstrates the aptitude and ability to provide backup support for all other insurance segments/products on an adhocbasis.
Maintain awareness of external market/industry related activities and able to identify commonalities with competitor actions to broaden insights.
Proactive identification and timely sharing of intelligence based on competitor actions from known sources, through deliverables including, but not limited to, the semi-monthly bulletin, competitive alerts, market positioning reporting, etc.
With some direction from leader, analysefindings through direct comparisons, data manipulation, recognition of trends/patterns or notable changes, to develop implications, impact for assigned portfolio, that are delivered timely in clearly presented outputs and deliverables to inform decision making and generate internal dialogue for strategy, product planning, experiences and sales enablement.
Actively build and maintain insights assets in team repositories including, but not limited to competitor announcements, rate tables, heat maps, product comparisons, historical promotion tracking, digital experience enhancements, competitive alerts, etc. with corresponding processes for owned portfolio, consistent with framework set out in team repositories.
Owns daily market monitoring activities for all insurance and GIP products, completes the impact commentary independently for owned portfolios and facilitatescompletion of remaining activities with the team. Responsible for posting articles in repositories.
Own monitoring of the team’s shared mailboxes, handing requests, either directly for owned portfolio or by seeking relevant team's/partners’ assistance, and ensuring awareness of important content within the team.
Build, maintain and is the point of contact for business partner relationships for owned portfolio, maintaining awareness of business activities/plans, addressing needs and actively participating in interactions to discuss/share insights.
