The successful candidate is responsible for conducting actuarial analysis and modelling using a variety of techniques. You will produce reports, present findings and make recommendations to support corporate decision making. You will collaborate with peers and contribute to initiatives and actuarial projects that support the needs of the business. Work will be focused on Pricing, Forecasting or Reserving depending on the area of assignment.
Key Accountabilities

Actuarial Modelling & Analytics
Conducts statistical and actuarial analysis on data from multiple sources using predictive modelling and other techniques. Makes appropriate actuarial assumptions and provides insights and recommendations based on the results of this work and communicates these results clearly to stakeholders.
Understands and builds models using modern modeling techniques, including machine learning models, and others such as generalized linear models, gradient boosted models, etc.
Develops spreadsheets, database table structures and extracts, and statistical software code to compile and categorize data used in profitability analysis/reserving/forecasting.
Conducts data analysis to identify trends and patterns within large data sets. Extracts, manipulates and visualizes data to support analytics and decision making.
Communicates actuarial concepts and key findings both verbally and in writing with supporting documentation.
Develops and runs reports as required.
Leverages analytics and technology to support recommendations for improving processes, product design and underwriting rules.
Recommends improvements to actuarial methods, analysis, or applications.
Makes recommendations on data collection tools, software, and business processes to maximize insights and efficiency.
Works closely with Product Management, Finance, Risk Management, Claims and Underwriting to develop knowledge of insurance operations and reflect factors and trends into our models.
Creates formal reports, presentations and submissions summarizing and interpreting analytical results.
Responds to routine requests from internal and external stakeholders related to standard reports and processes with validation from senior staff.
Develops and maintains relationships with key internal stakeholders across the corporation.
Adheres to actuarial and regulatory guidance, incorporating changes into work as required.
Assists with special projects and tasks as required.
Discipline Specific
Generates scenarios of adverse events to determine company-wide and individual product line impacts.
Performs analysis of appropriate assumption levels for various going concern and solvency scenarios given various target percentile levels.
Assesses the impact of changes of underlying assumptions on overall Minimum Capital Test percentages and capital levels.
Prepares loss trend and income statement forecasts for budgeting various products and the company overall.
Supports the preparation of Financial Capital Testing Reports, including appendices of scenario results.
Performs updates and adjustments to risk and forecast models to improve accuracy.

Education and Experience
A four-year degree from an accredited post-secondary education institution in Actuarial Science or a relevant field of study such as Business or Mathematics & Applied Science.
Successful completion of at least two Casualty Actuarial Society exams or equivalent progress on Canadian Institute of Actuaries qualification pathway.
One year of relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of actuarial methods, modelling, statistics and assumptions used in ratemaking and reserving.
Knowledge of database structures and logic and use of data science and statistical tools such as SAS, R or Python.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements and regulatory compliance on actuarial work.
Knowledge of the insurance industry and insurance product features.
Knowledge of mathematics, data management and programming skills.
Skills in quantitative and qualitative analytical capabilities, including critical thinking with strong attention to detail.
Ability to present results of analysis to a non-technical audience at all levels of the organization.
Ability to research, analyze and make decisions.
Ability to present and communicate effectively with non-actuarial areas of organization.
Ability to collaborate and build positive relationships with business partners.

The salary range for this position is $72,862 - $129,595 and will be commensurate with verification of education, experience, and the number of completed exams sponsored by the Casualty Actuarial Society.
