Duties and Responsibilities
Actuarial
Serve as an actuary and carry out related project work across multiple public health care projects, including Medicaid programsServe as a subject matter expert in health care finance, actuarial methods and standardsSupport the design and implementation of rate structures and methodologies, and ensure consistency with federal regulations and actuarial standardsSupport alternative payment model design and implementationConduct actuarial cost and other financial analysesInterpret and synthesize quantitative findings to facilitate decision makingWork collaboratively across teams and project streamsIdentify project risks and opportunities, and develop sustainable solutions to address theseCommunicate complex methods and principles in a straightforward and understandable wayConsulting
Conducts project management activities including project planning and status reportingFacilitates client discussions relating to healthcare financingManages daily project functions and client interactionServes as project lead and primary client contact for one or more projects relating to healthcare financeReviews business operations for service and efficiency improvementsEvaluates programs and makes recommendations for improvementsAnalyzes and interprets federal and state law and regulationAssesses best practices and provide technical assistance to clientsManages small projects, staff and tasks with limited supervision while meeting and exceeding performance expectationsDelegates tasks and responsibilities to team membersPrepares other written reports and materials for clientsBusiness Development
Supports strategic planning relating to identifying and pursuing actuarial opportunitiesIdentifies and reviews Requests for Proposals (RFPs)Supports direct business development activities including meeting with potential clients and preparing materials for business development meetingsLeads proposal writing teams, including writing sections, coordinating efforts, and preparing proposal submissionsGeneral

Knowledge of and experience with all aspects of the healthcare marketplace including plan design, pricing, reserving, benchmarking, financial management/analysis including experience projections, and administrationMedicaid actuarial experience (any state program, health insurer or Federal agency) or actuarial consulting experience; experience with Medicaid managed care capitation rate development and/or fee-for-service rate development, and Medicaid waivers is a plusExcellent critical thinking, quantitative, analytical and problem solving skillsAbility to prioritize and work across multiple projects/engagementsAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft Products, specifically ExcelStrong interpersonal, oral and written communication skillsExperience and ability to effectively evaluate client needs and providing client serviceQualifications
Education
Bachelors degree
Experience
5+ years of actuarial experience with particular emphasis on healthcare
Certification
ASA or FSA required
MAAA preferred

Compensation for roles at Public Consulting Group varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience.
