Adjunct Chamber Music Coach - Violin
The Peabody Preparatory is pleased to announce an adjunct Chamber Music Coaching position in the Peabody Plus program at the Peabody Preparatory with an anticipated start date of Summer 2025. The successful candidate will join a highly accomplished and dedicated chamber music faculty committed to helping adult amateur students of all levels achieve their potential; we embrace the novice as well as advanced level musicians. Ideal candidates should be experienced in coaching chamber music groups of all levels (beginner to advanced). We are actively seeking coaches for our Baltimore Peabody Conservatory Campus, located at 1 E Mt. Vernon Place, Baltimore, MD 21202 , with possible opportunities for expansion to other campuses. Teachers set their own teaching schedules (subject to space availability) . Duties: + Coordinate mutually convenient coaching and rehearsal times among group members + Lead 12 weekly chamber music coachings for 1-2 groups during the Fall and Spring semesters and 5 coachings for 1-4 groups during the summer session. Groups typically range in size from duo to quintet. + Prepare groups for performance in a mid-semester studio class and one or more end of semester public performances, some of which will occur on Peabody's downtown campus and some possibly at Johns Hopkins Hospital campuses or in other community locations. + Attend and assist with end-of-semester performances. + Attend occasional faculty meetings. + Maintain communication with the coordinator regarding student and group progress and dynamics. + Be prepared to make recommendations about repertoire for groups. + Request and reserve rooms for all chamber music groups through Peabody's scheduling system. + Participate in 1 Faculty Chamber Music Recital each academic year (Additional compensation, usually scheduled in the fall semester) ABOUT US: Established in 1894, the Peabody Preparatory boasts a rich history of nurturing musical talent. Located in downtown Baltimore and sharing space with the renowned Peabody Conservatory, the Preparatory also extends its reach through four satellite campuses in the communities of Towson, Annapolis, Frederick, and Howard County, MD. 10 years professional performance experience as a violinist, either in small ensembles or large. 7-10 years teaching experience, including prior experience with coaching specifically adult amateur chamber music ensembles. The ideal candidate possesses an understanding of the particular needs of the adult amateur musician - a cheerful and positive disposition during and outside of coachings , ability to balance critical feedback with positive reinforcement, and a supportive, encouraging demeanor. The ideal candidate has experience with, sensitivity to, and techniques useful for the management of defensive personalities. Salary: Starting at $40/hr for private lessons, $50/hr for group classes App l ications received before March 15, 202 5 will be given preference, but the position will remain open until filled. Additional Information Salary Range The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
