The School of Arts and Sciences seeks adjunct faculty to teach on campus sections of PHY.272 labs.
This introductory laboratory is taken concurrently with PHY 270 by students whose degree programs require physics with a laboratory component. Laboratory experiments include explorations of Newton’s Laws, collisions in one-dimension, constant acceleration, forces and torques in static equilibrium, and conservation of energy and momentum.
Deliver didactic, laboratory and/or experiential instruction via in-person format
Provide students with an approved syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School, texts and readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines and evaluation criteria
Provide engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications and relevance to medicine and health care of concepts covered
Supervise students during labs regarding safe and responsible use of lab equipment, obtaining good data and completing assignments within the time provided
Facilitate teamwork and development of practical skills
Support incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities
Use the University’s learning management system to post syllabus, assignments, grades and other materials and to communicate with students
Advise and assist students through office hours and/or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms
Provide service including student mentoring, ongoing course development, and assessment
Engage with physics faculty and fellow lab instructors in team-teaching environment
Additional responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor
