GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Kirkwood Community College (Cedar Rapids, IA) seeks a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Adjunct Instructor of Philosophy for the Spring 2025 semester. Courses of instruction would include: Introduction to Ethics, meeting Tues, 10:10am – 11:05am and Thurs 9:05am – 11:05am on the main campus in Cedar Rapids.
Adjunct faculty play a vital role in instruction. Adjunct instructors are responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. Adjunct faculty bring with them a variety of backgrounds and professional experiences which serve to foster growth in the subject matter and enrich student learning. Adjunct faculty must evaluate, record, and report student achievement and progress in assigned courses in accordance with department, division, and college policies and procedures. Must be able to design and participate in assessment of student learning projects within the discipline, the department, and the college.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Provide instruction in discipline.
+ Work with other faculty members to develop a course syllabus and consistent assessments.
+ Communicate with department staff, students, and faculty on a regular basis.
+ Perform other related work duties as assigned.
PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:
+ Effectively instruct and communicate material for the course.
+ Be able and willing to represent the college in the most positive manner with prospective, former, and current students, clients, suppliers, and the community we serve.
+ Welcome, value, and nurture people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, as well as promote an environment that embraces differences, supports inclusion, and mitigates equity gaps.
+ Possess the ability to organize and present various concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities, and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
+ Prepare for, attend, and facilitate all classes and finals as scheduled.
+ Establish and maintain good working relationships with students, colleagues, staff, administrators, and the general public.
+ Check rosters to ensure that students in your section are registered for your section.
+ Report attendance for financial aid purposes.
+ Respond to students and to their work in a civil and timely fashion.
+ Report midterm grades and final grades accurately and by the published deadlines.
+ Respond to staff questions for book orders.
+ Respond to staff and administrative communications about individual students.
+ Respond with data for the department assessment projects.
+ Attend your Kirkwood email each weekday.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:
Position involves working in a classroom setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
+ MA in Philosophy or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 12 graduate hours in Philosophy
PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS:
+ Experience teaching Ethics
+ Demonstrated commitment to the mission of a comprehensive community college
+ Demonstrated success in working collaboratively
+ Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
+ Outstanding written and oral communication skills
+ Doctorate degree
