Summary Description

Through subordinate managerial personnel, directs the personnel, operational and financial activities of Radiology, Cardiology, and Respiratory Therapy services.. In collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer and Vice President Finance and in cooperation with others in the hospital and DMC System, assists in developing and implementing strategic plans and annual operating goals consistent with the strategic directions, objectives and policies of Huron Valley Sinai Hospital and the Detroit Medical Center. Develops, secures approval of and monitors in compliance with short and long term operating and financial objectives for Ancillary Services at HVSH.

Identifies hospital and/or system-wide opportunities for productivity and quality improvement. Provides support and expertise to resolve operational problems.

Responsible for planning, development, management, control, coordination and maintenance of operational/functional activities within the Departments.

Works closely with the Medical Chairman. Integrates the department activities with Hospital objectives. Develops monitors and controls operating and capital budgets for Departments.

Approves procedures/protocols and/or seeks other departmental approvals as appropriate.

Develops monitors and revises functional processes in accordance with system-wide goals and objectives

Ensures that managers follow all policies concerning actions such as hires, fires, disciplines, etc.

Ensures that managers provide timely completion of performance appraisals.

Develops current to intermediate goals as well as long range objectives and measures for the department(s) and assures that these goals align with the strategic plan. Measures and assesses performance.

Provides long range goals and strategies for growth and development. Works in collaboration with the VP and the finance department(s) with the development of the budget and adherence to the budget.

Assumes responsibility for budget variances and responsibility for developing action plans to correct variances.

Monitors activities for and ensures compliance with laws, government regulations and DMC policies. As directed, implements external and internal audit recommendations.

Ensures hospital departments achieve objectives for diversity of their suppliers.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Master's degree in Health Care Administration, Business Administration or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

2. Five to seven years of progressively more responsible experience in administrative capacities including a minimum of three years managing multiple hospital operations, preferably in a large heath care organization.

Skills Required

1. Analytical ability to serve in an advisory/consultative role in determining and/or developing strategies, policies, processes, protocols and methods, frequently in the absence of guidelines or technical assistance, and to evaluate and direct complex systems that foster innovative approaches to procedures/processes on a system-wide basis.

2. Communication and interpersonal skills for frequent contact with internal customers as well as stakeholders external to the DMC to persuade or negotiate on a wide range of subjects in situations which may be controversial, sensitive and/or lead to confrontation. A mastery of a variety of communication modalities is required to include leading meetings, making formal presentations, and writing complex documents and managing complex relationships over time.

3. Project management skills including the ability to define program, project, or process objectives, identify stakeholders and their interests, plan steps, coordinate and allocate human, technological and fiscal resources to accomplish goals and objectives in a resourceful yet timely manner.

4. Leadership skills including demonstrated willingness to pursue leadership roles with increasing levels of accountability, comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching, teaching and counseling skills, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others and to forge alliances and garner support.

5. Technical knowledge of radiology operations.
