Job Description Summary:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Clinical Services, responsible for monitoring patient care and coordination of nursing personnel on assigned units and collaboration with the Patient Placement Office for optimum bed and staff utilization during assigned shift. Ensures nursing unit scheduling follows approved scheduling guidelines, policies and procedures. The employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospital.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Analyzes the 24-hour staffing pattern to provide optimum coverage by the use of the following: utilizing benchmarks, calling in staff, moving staff, observing acuity, cancellation of staff, and assignment of Team Builders.Coordinates nursing personnel, resource staffing personnel and patient care on assigned units during assigned shift to see that patient needs are being met according to age-specific needs and acuity.Ensures the proper segregation and safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.Assists in formulating nursing policies, procedures, and standards.Coordinates activities between nursing units, medical staff, admitting office and other hospital departments.Maintains communication to and between nursing personnel and hospital and/or nursing administration.Assumes responsibility for continued professional growth.Contribute to a positive work climate and overall team effort of the department and hospital and greet guest in accordance with our Guest Excellence principles.Performs related responsibilities required or directed to include teaching, appropriate intervention and evaluation of patient care in the absence of Director and/or clinical manager, and serving on committees.
 JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

Completion of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate degree in nursing required.  

LICENSURE, REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION:

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse as approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing for practice in the state of Tennessee.Responsible for Continuing Education Units annually.BLS certification must be kept current while in this position.ACLS certification required and certification must be kept current.PALS certification required within 6 months of hire and certification must be kept current. Certification in area of clinical expertise by recognized authoritative agency desirable.Additional certifications may be required at the department’s discretion.  

EXPERIENCE:

Proficiency in current practices and techniques in the specific area of clinical expertise as acquired through 3 years of continuous/current clinical experience with a minimum of one (1) year in a specialty area and/or supervision.Knowledge and ability to demonstrate nursing skills according to current hospital policies and procedures as acquired through a 4-8 week orientation program.
