Administrative Business Prof/S
Position Summary Duties and Responsibilities: Provides counsel to the chairperson regarding the development of strategic goals and financial planning, university policies and procedures and compliance with regulatory entities; serves as administrative liaison to the College of Social Science; assists the chair with the implementation of strategic efforts. Oversees the fiscal activities for the department; serves as fiscal officer for the unit and develops financial targets and operating indicators, creates and reconciles comprehensive and mission-specific budgets, analyzes data, and develops forecasting reports; monitors and reconciles accounts; analyzes and manages graduate funding packages and faculty start-up and retention commitments. Provides oversight and administrative support for grant administration (pre-award and post-award). Manages the administrative personnel and oversees the human resource activities for the department; reviews and approves all personnel actions; initiates faculty and academic staff personnel actions; manages the Reappointment, Promotion and Tenure (RPT) process for the unit including RPT package preparation; manages the annual review process including data and document collection and reporting; manages the hiring process for all employee types including tenure system faculty, fixed term faculty and academic staff, support staff, temporary/on-call, and students. Fosters a culture of inclusiveness within the organization, provides coaching to direct reports, department leadership, and supervisors on processes, procedures, and business related issues. Manages maintenance and renovation of spaces in the Old Horticulture Building; supervise the issuance of keys; disseminate information regarding safety policies. Supervises issuance of technology within the department and tracks technology expenditures. Manages the administrative personnel and oversees the human resource activities for the department. Minimum Requirements Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in office procedures and administration, extensive supervisory and management experience in an academic department or university setting; three to five years experience in financial or accounting practices and human resources; demonstrated leadership competencies; experience with word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation software and/or desktop publishing, web page software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Desired Qualifications Strong critical thinking, financial and analytical skills; excellent verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills; previous experience in research administration; knowledge of Michigan State University's business policies and procedures; experience with Michigan State Universities Enterprise Business Systems; strengths should include a dynamic yet collaborative leadership approach and excellent problem-solving, oral/written communication, and organizational skills; ability to work independently.
