The Director of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) will report to the Senior Vice President (SVP) for Education, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI). The CPE Director has direct responsibility for the administrative leadership, strategic and financial planning, operating results, and regulatory alignment of the DFCI’s continuing professional education programs. The CPE Director will establish and supervise the implementation of a comprehensive DFCI Strategic Plan for Continuing Professional Education with the goal of establishing an internationally identifiable, interprofessional and authoritative DFCI-branded digital home for cancer education. The scope includes coordinated interprofessional programs that address the needs of physician, nurse, advanced practice provider, pharmacist, cancer scientists and other relevant audiences, nationally and internationally.

Responsibilities

Leadership

Along with the SVP for Education, determines the overall direction, goals, and tactics for CPE administration.

Along with SVP for Education, oversees an inclusive process of Strategic Planning, including but not limited to establishing:

Catalogue of existing CPE programs and resources at DFCI.A process for curricular prioritization.Investment in infrastructure (e.g., content production and delivery, learning management systems, participation tracking technology, social media methods).Budgetary accountability.A method for tracking and updating affiliation agreements, as required.A timeline and metrics for success.Along with the SVP for Education and departmental leaders, collaboratively defines and delivers a DFCI-branded, interprofessional “Cancer Education Home” consistent with the DFCI goals and mission. This approach prioritizes content mastery, accessibility, interactivity, mobile formats, interprofessional (team care), bringing expertise to the ‘community,’ and building longitudinal connections between the learner and DFCI that support brand-loyalty.Directs a CPE team that will be responsible for regulatory approvals, program implementation, provides guidance to ethical standards, articulates and adjudicates potential conflicts of interest, manages public relations and social media, coordinates operational efficiency, coordinates marketing strategies, and choses appropriate learning management system and evaluation platforms.Maintains an in-depth knowledge of the changing health care education environment, including monitoring and adhering to ACCME and other relevant accreditation organizations.Ensures healthy and collaborative relationships among the faculty and staff educators at DFCI.Provides effective, clear, and precise methods of communicating with departmental leaders, faculty, and staff on a regular basis.Continuously assesses and improves the systems and processes within each area under the CPE Director’s purview.

 

ACCME institutional accreditation

Along with the SVP for Education, establishes and maintains DFCI institutional ACCME accreditation, starting with self-study and moving through to provisional- and then full-accreditation.Creates and updates relevant policies, oversight structures and procedures required for ACCME accreditation.Educates staff about the accreditation requirements and opportunities.Along with the SVP for Education, faculty and staff, chooses and deploys coordinated methods of curriculum development, content delivery, and 360-degree and program evaluation.Understands and adheres to all regulatory reporting requirements.

Program Operations

Continuously interfaces and coordinates with the SVP for Education and other key and relevant educational and administrative leaders.Ensures DFCI administrative leadership supports and maintains representation on all relevant education administration committees, as assigned.

 

Human Resources

Recruits, retains, develops, and provides managerial and administrative oversight of all staff within the CPE team and related operational areas of responsibility.Creates a working environment that supports the ongoing professional growth and development of all staff, high morale, and optimal job satisfaction.Serves as the primary resource for all administrative issues concerning human resources policy issues for staff in the operational areas of responsibility.Facilitates resolution of conflicts and issues that emerge between key educational and administrative stakeholder groups.Provides leadership in the implementation of regular staff meetings, in-service training, and continuing education activities for all areas of responsibility.Develops, implements, and monitors compliance with policies and procedures mandated by institutional and regulatory entities (e.g., The Joint Commission, Department of Public Health).Partners with Human Resources to ensure employment relationships, personnel compensation, and benefits are implemented in a manner consistent with DFCI policies and procedures.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

A team of direct reports, up to 6 FTEs Qualifications Bachelors degree of Science required. Masters degree preferred in the areas of Higher Education, MPH, MBA, MHA.10 years of experience in the areas of continuing medical education.
