The City of Norfolk’s Department of Human Services (NDHS) provides a wide range of essential services to its citizens. The City of Norfolk’s Department of Human Services is seeking to hire an Administrative Technician for various public assistance programs and services. Duties may include work within the Self-Sufficiency VIEW and SNAP E&T departments. Administrative Technicians under close supervision assist clients and staff with various clerical needs, financial tracking and responsibilities within standards, policy and procedures of the agency and state. This position works closely with the clients, the public at large, staff and community partners to ensure assistance is provided. Departmental Hiring Salary Range: $41,231.00- 47,415.65 Essential Functions + Performs administrative duties such as entering and updating data in computerized systems, creating and maintaining spreadsheets for tracking purposes, scanning documents, researching data to resolve complaints, extract, compile and processing reports and maintaining files, and composing and mailing correspondence + Verifies client information. Responds expeditiously and courteously to customer needs and keeps applicants informed. + Assists clients through the issuance of bus tickets, clothing and gas vouchers. Maintains logs and tracking process for issuances and other supportive services. + Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with customers, partner organizations, colleagues and all others to provide a seamless, accurate and timely delivery of services. + Communicates clearly and professionally. + Demonstrates computer proficiency and navigates state/local software systems such as VaCMS or Datawarehouse for report processing + Assists with training and other administrative duties as assigned. Education/Experience + Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with six months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training. + Two years clerical experience. Additional Information & Requirements PREFERRED + Knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes, and review techniques, such as data collection and investigation. + Six months to one year experience performing similar functions + Valid Driver's License may be required depending on assignment. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. If you are hired January 1, 2022, or after to a position with Virginia Retirement System (VRS) benefits, you will be required to contribute five percent (5%) of your salary toward your retirement benefit. This will be a pre-tax payroll deduction. + The Tuition Assistance Program is established to encourage employees toward continued self-development and education. Permanent full-time and permanent part-time classified, unclassified permanent, full-time special projects, and constitutional employees who have completed six months continuous service will be eligible to apply.
