The cover letter should address your specific interest in the position and outline skills and experience that directly relate to this position. **Job Summary** The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is looking for admissions counselors to serve as the public face of the University to prospective students and parents. Working closely with the undergraduate admissions team, counselors are responsible for: high school recruitment visits; interpretation and communication of admissions policies and procedures to prospective students and parents, other University offices, secondary schools, and community colleges. Counselors evaluate a large volume of applications for admission with a high level of accuracy. Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Office of Enrollment Management (OEM) manages U-M's enrollment function to efficiently optimize students' experiences throughout their engagement, from prospect to alumni. The division collaborates with campus partners, faculty, and staff, in support of the university's mission and commitment to academic quality, accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion. OEM comprises a dedicated team of more than 200 full-time staff members, and up to 400 additional student and temporary staff and is structured in five operational units - the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Office of Financial Aid, the Office of New Student Programs, the Office of the Registrar, and OEM Administration. OEM strives to provide excellence in access and support to diverse and inspiring learners who will challenge the present and enrich the future. **Responsibilities*** **40%** + Recruit prospective undergraduate students to The University of Michigan. + Represent The University of Michigan at college fairs, transfer fairs, high school visits, receptions, and other public service programs and events. Schedule all travel activities and logistics for these events. + Meet individually with prospective students and their families who visit The University of Michigan. + Present general information sessions to large (up to several hundred people) and small groups of prospective undergraduate students and their families, responding to individual questions and concerns. + Respond to inquiries (phone, mail, electronic) from prospective undergraduate students and families. + Respond to email, phone, and written requests for admission and academic policy information. **40%** + Evaluate applications for domestic and international freshman and transfer admission using the University's individualized and comprehensive freshman application evaluation process. + Act as an intermediary on behalf of students, parents, High School Counselors, and the general public responding to and resolving problems, handling inquiries and concerns about educational issues as they relate to admission to the University and students' academic plans. Advocate on behalf of the students gaining admission to the University and understanding alternative options if they are non-admissible. + Provide professional referrals for prospective and newly admitted students requiring more extensive financial aid assistance, career planning, disability services, tutoring assistance, and personal counseling. **20%** + Assist in the planning, preparation, execution, and evaluation of many recruitment programs and special projects. **Required Qualifications*** + Bachelor's degree + One year of professional experience + Excellent communication and presentation skills + Ability to manage multiple projects, stay on task and can plan out required work to meet deadlines. + Must be flexible.Able to excel when presented with new projects and / or new situations. + Must be a team player and work towards the office goals. + Self-starter and motivated.Must have the ability to work independently. + Must have a strong work ethic and maintain a high level of professionalism. + Familiar with basic computer software applications (Microsoft Suite). + Evening and weekend work is required. + This position requires significant travel. Must have the flexibility to travel extensively and overnight on short notice. + Candidate must be able to transport and move admissions-related materials, including boxes of printed information packets and brochures, to various events and locations. **Desired Qualifications*** + Experience with students and colleagues from diverse ethnic backgrounds are desirable. + Experience or knowledge in admissions work, recruitment principles, and student support services is desirable. + Knowledge of the workings of a college or university is desirable. + Bilingual + Masters in Higher Education **Modes of Work** Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. The Office of Enrolment Management requires a hybrid work arrangement of minimally three days on-site and two remote days.
