Responsibilities Under the direction of the Director of Admissions Department, the Supervisor of Intake assures smooth and orderly processes are followed related to the response to calls, referrals, and admissions into the hospital. Intake Supervisor is accountable for assisting in management of the department, providing supervision of Intake Staff, crisis intervention, and responding to referrals appropriately. This position interfaces closely with both internal hospital staff, facility physicians, as well as referring hospitals, patients, families, and community referral sources. This position carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and procedures. This includes assisting the Director of Admissions with interviewing, hiring, and training of new employees as well as appraising performance, disciplining employees, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. The position of Intake Supervisor will assist in daily administrative duties, assist the Admissions Director in assigned tasks, as well as be able to perform the tasks required of each position in the Admissions Department. The position of Intake Supervisor requires the ability to provide effective leadership within the Admissions Department and to organize staff to serve patients, families, and referral sources in an effective and timely manner throughout the referral and admission process. Qualifications Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, psychology, mental health, nursing, or a related field. Experience: A minimum of two (2) years direct clinical experience, preferable in a psychiatric or mental health setting. Experience in clinical interviewing, patient assessment, family motivation, treatment planning, communicating with external review organizations or comparable entities, and working effectively with people of diverse backgrounds. Must have strong management skills with ability to effectively communicate with staff, ensuring proper employee performance management. Additional Requirements: Complete knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. Trained in de-escalation procedures, CPI and CPR certification. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES Excellent communication skills, i.e., verbal and written. Ability to multitask and demonstrate critical thinking skills. Thorough knowledge of psychiatric services provided by the hospital. Ability to work flexible hours. Requires understanding of computers, accurate data entry skills, the ability to pull computer-based reports, analyze data, and make decisions. Working knowledge of DSM-V diagnostic criteria, mental status exam, and addiction/recovery field. Position requires the ability to determine suitability of admission to the hospital based on clinical criteria and to be able to effectively staff patient with physician. Skill set to prioritize, assign tasks, and hold staff accountable for task completion. Ability to make independent and responsible decisions. Position requires ability to work under stressful circumstances, with frequent interruptions, and time focused processes. Service excellence is a must.
