Responsibilities

We are hiring a Summer Intern to join the Ascension Data Sciences Institute!

The Ascension Data Sciences Institute (ADSI) was created in July 2019 with the mission of supporting Ascension in achieving its Quadruple Aim with uniquely skilled, high-performing associates who develop analyses, models and applications to enable Ascension in providing higher value healthcare and making strategic decisions.  ADSI is comprised of 6 domains addressing 1) Clinical quality and patient safety; 2) Health Economics and Clinical Outcomes; 3) Strategic Operations and Financial Analytics; 4) Actuarial and Managed Care Analytics; 5) Registry Abstraction Healthcare Solutions; and 6) Healthcare Data Intelligence.  We recognize that the healthcare environment is a complex ecosystem of rapidly evolving clinical and economic practices that affect patient and provider experience and demands increasingly sophisticated and complex measurement.  Our objective is for advanced analytics and data science to play a critical and foundational role in the transformation of care delivery, quality and financial outcomes to enable our organization’s competitive advantage. 

We are hiring an intern on the Health Equity Analytics team to support Ascension’s Health Equity and Community Impact initiatives.

In this position, you will be involved in designing analytics and reporting to assess and monitor trends in health equity, including the overall health and well-being of vulnerable populations we serve. You will be expected to work with data management teams to compile datasets from a variety of sources to provide a comprehensive picture of medical and non-medical determinants of health and healthcare utilization. Your work will directly impact health care for vulnerable populations. 

What You Will Do

Apply current coursework and analytics skills to identify strategic business insights. Present business insights and recommendations to ADSI team members and peers. 

Perform department-specific duties and responsibilities in a training capacity. 

Have a basic understanding of SQL access data sourcesFamiliarity with data visualization tools (such as Tableau or Looker)Compile and analyze multiple data sources to support strategy decisionsFormulate hypotheses, define problems and use data analysis to make recommendationsPresent findings and make recommendations.Perform work assignments in support of departmental goals.Attend and participate in meetings at the invitation of leadership.Perform additional clerical duties as assigned.
Requirements

Education:

High school diploma equivalency OR Enrolled in accredited program specific to discipline required.
