This service will provide internal medicine care 24 hours per day, 7 days per week in all areas of the hospital and will include, but not be limited to, Emergency Room admissions and consults, inpatient internal medicine care, and medical consultation on surgical patients. The employee will also need to participate in programs and initiatives that improve the overall service provided by the Hospitalist Program. The employee may participate in the organization's Coumadin Clinic and with the assistance of the AAMC Pharm D's participate in managing
coumadin dosage. Additionally, the employee may also perform outpatient and/or same-day-admit pre-operative medical consultations on patients scheduled for surgery at AAMC. (Not applicable for part-time physicians/hospitalists.)
Provides internal medicine care within the inpatient setting to include (but not limited to) history and physical exams, consultative services, daily rounding services, and discharge planning.
Performs the above mentioned internal medicine care within time frames as established by the department (e.g. history and physical exams within an hour and able to round on 15 patients per day).
Provides medical care that is of high quality as judged by medical peers.
Generates length of stays and hospital charges that are, on average, below that of non-hospitalist medical peers. (Not applicable for part-time physicians/hospitalists.)
Facilitates communication and interactions between the patients, families, peers, ancillary staff, and consultants.
Produce reliable and accurate billing records that allow the Anne Arundel Medical Center to correctly bill third party payer and other consumers of healthcare at the hospital.
Provides clinical information pertaining to patient condition to third party resource management.
Assures patients and families are kept informed of the clinical management care plan and clinical outcomes on a daily basis.
Responds to the Emergency Department for patient evaluation in a timely manner facilitating timely movement of patients from the ED with a goal of 30 minutes from the time of notification to the time of writing admission orders.
Required: The employee must be licensed to practice in the State of Maryland and Board Certified/Board Eligible in Internal Medicine or a comparable adult medical specialty. The employee must also fulfill the requirements for medical staff membership at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
