Job Overview-

The APP is an independent health care provider who coordinates inpatient and outpatient care through collaboration with the physicians for the care of thoracic surgery patients. The PA or NP provides care in accordance with the objective policies and procedures of the practice and the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Advisory Committee.

Specifically, the APP will work collaboratively with the surgeons at all levels of the thoracic surgery practice to stage and treat lung and esophageal cancer as well as benign thoracic diseases. This includes working in the operation room as well as the clinic and interfacing in a multidisciplinary fashion with Oncology Pulmonology Radiation Oncology and other medical specialties.

Required:

For Advance Practice Nurse/Nurse PractionerMaster s degree in Nursing requiredRegistered Professional Nurse with current NJ state license; CDS and DEACPR certificationNurse Practitioner CertificationThree to five years of work experience as a professional nurseFor Physician Assistant:Physician Assistant CertificationRegistration & Licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Medical Examiners/ Physician Assistant AdvisoryBasic Life Support (BLS)Advanced Life Support (ACLS)

Preferred:

Fluency in Spanish and other languages is a plus

Scheduling Requirements:

Full time40 hoursMonday,Tuesday ,Wednesday, Friday 730am to 6pm, This role is based in West Orange, NJ.Some occasional travel may be required as needed,

Essential Functions:

The APP is responsible for assisting the physicians in the office administering medications, performing physical exams and participating in flow of patients thru the practiceThe APP will assist the physicians with various procedures/surgeries and assist with coordinating the case of the patientMust demonstrates an ability to organize and achieve quality performance in new routineMust demonstrates effectiveness in coordinating aspects of patient care within a surgical health environmentDemonstrates strong organizational skills communicates effectively and demonstrates time managementShould effectively prioritize work assignments and demonstrate effective communication skillsImplement the policies and procedures of the practicePerforms assessment and reassessment of the patient according to applicable department standards and identified toolsPerforms other duties as assigned by the physicianMust have the ability to compassionately interact with patients across different areas of careShould recognizes areas for improvement in divisional policies or patient care initiates change educate all involved in changeWill regularly communicate with nursing leadership and staff concerning patient care issuesThoroughly explains procedures to patients prior to testingProvides appropriate patient teaching as necessary
