Minimum Required and Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Program required. Master’s degree required; Doctoral degree preferred. Current RN and APN licensure (State of New Jersey and/or Multistate License) required or PA licensure.       BLS and ALCS certification required.  Minimum 5 years clinical advanced practice experience required. Cardiology experience preferred. Demonstrated leadership experience, preferred.  Lean Six Sigma White Belt certification preferred, or to be completed within 6 months of hire. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred, or to be completed within 24 months of hire.

LEADERSHIP:

The Lead APP serves in a dyad role with the physician Director of Cardiology as a knowledgeable, experienced, and respected leader.  This position is for the responsible for the leadership of all cardiology APPs, working collaboratively with key stakeholders in nursing, physician, and administrative leadership in support of the serviceline mission, vision, and goals.  The lead will partner with stakeholders to develop an effective and efficient workforce plan and improve the integration of APPs in cardiology, while ensuring APP top of license practice. The lead will provide leadership for APP evidence-based practice, engagement, quality and safety outcomes, and performance improvement.  The lead will represent cardiology APPs on serviceline meeting and organizational committees, including the Division of Cardiology, the Advanced Practice Council, and any other pertinent committees that affect the operations and clinical practice of cardiology. 

 

CLINICAL:

The APP provides care for patients with chronic and acute cardiac disease. These conditions may be structural, electrical, functional, or vascular. The APP may perform diagnostic and therapeutic tasks independently while collaborating with physician colleagues with appropriate credentialing for privileges. The APP will perform data collection, assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of patients under their care and is responsible for patient advocacy in medical care system, serving as advisor and liaison between patients and physicians.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.

Depending on the discipline of the APP – appropriate state administrative codes as well as AtlantiCare Bylaws, Rules and Regulations will apply and could vary on that discipline (NP v. PA).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION: Master’s degree required. Completion of an accredited nurse practitioner or physician assistant (associate) program also required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must be board certified as a nurse practitioner/physician assistant and licensed by the State of New Jersey. Must be credentialled as an allied health practitioner with AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws. ACLS required. BLS HCP required.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum five years of experience in the advanced practice provider role. Cardiology experience preferred. Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at time of hire. Incumbents within position will be trained appropriately and then skill will be required for this position within 30–60 days from date of hire.

RECOMMENDED: Doctorate preferred with didactic training in leadership. Lean Six Sigma White Belt certification preferred or to be completed within 6 months of hire. Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred or to be completed within 24 months.

 

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

Demonstrates the leadership, operational, and clinical competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Potential for exposure to the hazards and risk of the hospital environment, including exposure to infectious disease, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous substances and potential injury. Extensive standing and walking, including stairs. Lifting approximately 25–50 pounds frequently. Lifting approximately 50–100 pounds with assistance occasionally.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

 

This position reports to the AVP of Advanced Practice Providers with dotted line structure to Heart Institute administrative leadership. Will function as a clinical team leader for cardiology in a physician director/APP dyad structure for team decisions.

Will supervise/manage a minimum of 10 APPs (0.1 admin time) to a maximum of 20 APPs (0.2 admin time) in the cardiology service line.
