Advanced Development Engineer

Ford Model E is responsible for developing the key technologies and capabilities – such as EV platforms, batteries, e-motors, inverters, charging and recycling – to create ground-up breakthrough electric vehicles. By joining the best software, engineering, design and UX talent, you will be a part of creating new technologies and concepts that can be applied across the Ford enterprise. Being on the Ford Model E team means building the future as Ford’s center of innovation and growth through electric and connected vehicles and services. The Development Engineer will support Design Engineers in the development and testing of Fords next generation batteries, power electronics, power units and vehicle systems through multiple stages from initial concept through production validation.

The minimum requirements we seek:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience supporting electric vehicle architecture & integration development.
• Strong background in mechanical prototyping, equipment, and test design.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience designing measurement and control systems for complex machines.
• Experience specifying, sourcing, and setting up sensors and data acquisition systems.
• Experience with 3-D modeling software
• Capable of working safely with High Power, High Voltage systems
 

Preferred Requirements:
• Advanced Degree in Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience supporting electric vehicle architecture & integration development.
• Hands-on experience building and launching automotive products and vehicle prototyping.
• Experience with advanced modeling, simulation, and controls software such as 3DExperience, LabView, MATLAB, Veristand, TestLab, or other related engineering tools.
• A system approach to design and development with the desire for continuous improvement.
• Familiar with error propagation and uncertainty analysis for experimental data collection.

What you’ll be able to do:
• Collaborate with design engineers and technicians to build, modify, instrument, and test EVsystems and components.
• Design, assembly, programing and commissioning of test equipment hardware and control systems.
• Define requirements for lab spaces and equipment installation.
• Work directly with facility ops teams for installation and bring-up of lab equipment.
• Design and execute experiments to support systems, safety, hardware, and software development, collecting, analyzing, and reporting data.
• Implement integration of new parts or systems into prototype tester or vehicles and provide feedback to the design team.
• Coordination of maintenance and repairs for lab equipment and tooling.
• Facilitate time-critical instrumentation and execution of testing for prototyping and vehicle development.
• Maintain a test engineering tool kit of equipment, sensors, and data acquisition systems.
• Develop custom equipment and tooling to support advanced EV systems research.
