Job Description: Advanced Lead Engineer - Systems Engineer

Location: Grand Rapids, MI (Onsite 3-4 days a week)

Overview: The Advanced Technology Avionics organization is responsible for the pursuit and execution of business related to advanced military avionics platforms, and the evaluation of opportunities in emerging and adjacent markets.  A systems engineer inside the Advanced Technology Organization (ATO) will act as a cross-functional engineering leader that considers both business and technical needs with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the customer’s requirements.  The systems engineer will be responsible for the design, creation, and optimization of systems, which includes identifying and quantifying system requirements, creating alternate design concepts, performing design trade studies, selecting and implementing the best designs, and verifying that the design is properly integrated and executed. This process spans from concept to production to operation.  Additionally, the systems engineer will support a variety of Bids & Proposals (B&P) activities for multiple advanced avionics programs.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Component and Product Integration: Design, develop and integrate multiple components and products optimizing performance, cost, quality and inter-operability.

Requirements Management: Gather customer requirements, translate to systems requirements, specifications and flow down to hardware and software teams.

Validation and Verification: Drive validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system-level testing.

Interface Management: Manage the interface between components and other systems.

Risk Management: Apply critical thinking toward the proactive identification and abatement of technical risk to minimize project impact.

Configuration Management: Manage the overall product configuration and configuration control system.

Technical Expertise: Develop expertise and knowledge within multiple technical domains in order to drive an analytical approach towards development of a holistic mission focused architectural solution.

Best Practices: Understand and develop best practices the accelerate LEAN operations and differentiators in the market.

Problem-Solving: Propose different solutions outside of set parameters to address complex manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles.

Decision-Making: Use multiple internal and limited external sources outside of own teams to make decisions.

Resource for Colleagues: Act as a resource for less experienced colleagues; may lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements.

Customer Resource:

Team Consensus: Develop skills to bring team members to consensus around topics within the field.

Communication: Report to senior leadership on technical status of ongoing projects.

Bids & Proposals: Respond to requests for information (RFI) and requests for proposal (RFP) providing estimates of resource costs and proposed technical approach.

Strategy Deployment:  Support the development of product and technical roadmaps.

Customer Engagement:  Work closely with the Program Manager (PM) and Engineering Project Manager (EPM) to collaborate with the customer throughout the project.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in engineering or a similar field from an accredited university or college

A minimum of 5 years of experience developing system architectures derived from customer requirements.

This role requires the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance. Therefore, this posting is only for US citizens. Note, GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Experience with Cameo systems modeling tool

Knowledge of embedded processing technologies including micro-controllers, micro-processors, and system-on-chip devices

Experience with development of Avionics computing systems

Knowledge of machine learning and/or cybersecurity technologies

Experience within the hardware domain and embedded software design.

Awareness of aerospace standards and regulations such as DO-178, DO-254, etc.
