Job Description

Facilitates and manages day-to-day operations of the communications center, including fiscal and human resources processes. Participates as a member of interdisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating transport communications and transport services that support the integrity of the family system and patient care team.

Experience

5 years of experience in an emergency medical services dispatch center, additional education, or equivalent experience in a healthcare business environment

Preferred Qualifications

National Association of Air Communication Specialists certified flight communicator advanced certification within 6 months of employment

Education

Associate’s degree in Management, Health Administration, or related field or equivalent managerial experience

Certification Summary

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (Paramedics only)National Association of Air Communication Specialists certified flight communicator within 6 months of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated knowledge of and proficient in medical terminologyData entry and word processing skills at 25 words per minuteDemonstrated basic math skillsSkills in stress recognition and managementDemonstrated leadership and personnel management qualities, including excellent communications, organization, and interpersonal skillsCompetencies as defined by department must be completed within 6 months of employment

Job Responsibilities

Performs all tasks performed by ancillary staff effectively and independently.Provides excellent customer service routinely in interactions with all customers.Manages and provides training for Communications Specialists in conjunction with Clinical Educator.Develops policies and procedures for communications center operations.Manages and maintains staff schedule to ensure staffing at all times.Oversees management of communications center computer applications and databases.Maintains daily statistics and monthly reports and presents reports to other members of hospital leadership as needed.Performs appropriate follow-up to ensure satisfactory communications problem resolution and customer satisfaction and establishes systems and initiatives to improve customer satisfaction.Hires and coordinates performance appraisals and disciplinary process for communications center staff.Participates in achievement of organizational and departmental goals.Achieves 75% attendance at staff meetings and may participate in developing and sharing content.Acts as consultant to other disciplines, advocating for the patient.Manage the day-to-day operations of the staff, including but not limited to work assignments, task management, time tracking/management, and on-the-job training.Take an active role in coaching and mentoring the team to ensure continued employee growth and success both on the team and at the broader CHOA organization.Assist manager with employee performance evaluations and hiring decisions.
