Through this community of healers, scientists, and scholars, Rutgers is equipped as never before to transform lives. Posting Summary Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Advanced Practice Nurse for the Psychiatry Department within New Jersey Medical School.

This position will work closely with a team of outreach, clinical, housing, and law enforcement partners to provide services to homeless residents in the community, as part of a new mobile outreach initiative, based in the City of Newark.

Among the key duties of the position are the following: Performs in an expanded nursing role and has responsibility for meeting the psychiatric and substance use needs of patients. Conducts comprehensive assessments and exams and produces complete and timely documentation in the electronic medical record. Prescribes medications when clinically indicated. Maintains a friendly, warm and compassionate attitude toward patients. Employs a harm reduction philosophy for substance-using patients and contributes to an atmosphere of empathy and respect for all patients. Administers depot injections as clinically indicated. Helps to de-escalate crisis situations and manage interpersonally difficult situations. Conducts case conferencing and in-service training to the mobile team and participates in clinical trainings along with other CARE Center and COE staff as requested.
