Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA)

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)/Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a licensed independent practitioner who is responsible for managing health problems and coordinating health care for the patient in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations and the nursing standards of care.  The APRN/NP will provide healthcare to patients in accordance with the standard care arrangement and within the scope of practice set forth by the Ohio Board of Nursing.

 

Specific functions pertaining to the department in which the APRN/NP works are established by the APRN/NP and the collaborating physician(s) and approved by the appropriate medical and nursing administrators.

Physician assistants (PAs) in this role provide advanced care to patients within any setting in which patients require complex, acute, critical and chronic health conditions. PAs function within a supervising agreement with a Physician, (as per O.R.C. 4730), to perform complete histories and physicals on patients of all ages to establish and record patient's current health status and to develop a working diagnosis and treatment plan to provide continuing medical care, including daily examinations, writing orders, chart notes, discharging patients and completing discharge summaries.
