The Department of Urology at OHSU provides care and treatment for all urologic conditions by nationally recognized physicians, each of whom has additional fellowship training in his or her respective field of expertise.
Function/Duties of PositionThe appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.
The appointee will work with members of the OHSU Department of Urology faculty to provide urologic services to patients in an OHSU Urology practice on the Adventist Health Portland Medical Center campus. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the background, focus, and drive to excel, as well as the ability to provide excellent clinical care to patients in a community setting. Candidates will be trained and become experienced in management of patients with urologic conditions. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide care in a community practice with an affiliation to the state’s only academic medical center.
The position will include support of outpatient, and inpatient services. The appointee will work in conjunction with surgical faculty to provide care for patients in an outpatient office setting as well as supporting inpatient care for post-operative patients. The remainder of this position’s responsibilities are medical record documentation and administrative duties as necessary. Some call, evening and weekend obligations may exist.
The appointee will also: provide leadership and guidance in the area of ambulatory urologic care; work in partnership with Urology faculty to provide effective, efficient care and good customer service in the ambulatory environment; work in conjunction with Urology faculty, Adventist, and OHSU leadership to provide services that further the University’s goals and mission of teaching, research, patient care, and public service.
The duties of this position include:
Outpatient responsibilities
Provide patient care in the outpatient setting. This includes outpatient patient evaluations focused on General urology, voiding dysfunction, and performing urodynamics procedures after training and onboarding. Additional responsibilities would include being available to take patient calls regarding questions; triage and assisting clinic support staff.
Inpatient responsibilitiesProvide inpatient care and follow-up of patients from admission, and through discharge. Includes, but is not limited to: rounding on a daily basis, developing and implementing, in conjunction with faculty physicians, clinical plans of care and/or protocols for inpatients on the urology service, enhancing quality of patient services and decreasing length of inpatient stay; working actively with hospital and unit staff to rapidly develop and implement discharge plans for inpatients.
Required Qualifications Nurse practitioner: Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program. Current and Active Oregon Nurse Practitioner provider license; Experience in a Urology practice preferred.Physician Assistant: Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant Program. Current national certification. Current Oregon Physician Assistant license. Experience in a Urology practice preferred.All: Prescriptive Authority (DEA License)Knowledge and Skills: Experience in a surgical practice (Urology preferred), but newly graduated PAs or NPs will also be considered. Must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize; ability to be a self-starter and organized; ability to work as a team member and also independently; must possess a positive and enthusiastic attitude, an eagerness to learn the background in urologic surgery, including robotic surgery; possess excellent communication skills (verbal, written and active listening).Expected membership and participation in professional organizations.
