This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial & Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Perform final inspection on a variety of air drop systems. Responsibilities Conduct cargo and personnel airdrop related inspection, testing and analysis of resulting data. Install, operate, and maintain the varied and unique aerial delivery systems that are developed various manufacturers, and Other Government Agencies (OGA) entities. Inspect, pack, rig, and recover a wide array of aerial delivery, personnel, and other types of experimental parachute and cargo systems. Inspect, assemble, and pack complex parachute systems that require the execution of numerous mechanical assembly and fabric packing procedures. Operate a variety of heavy mobile equipment such as pickup trucks, tractor/trailer (Semi), ATV’s, K-Loaders, loaders, road graders, water trucks, rollers, forklifts, cranes, tractors, and fuel trucks. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Aerial Delivery Inspector (Motor Vehicle/Forklift Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. Perform the common aspects of inspecting, packing, rigging and recovering an array or aerial delivery equipment and parachutes; prepare the landing zones and drop zones in support of aerial delivery operations; train the aircraft crews and ground support personnel conducting the aerial delivery mission; perform the duties of a Drop Zone Safety Officer, Malfunctions Officer, and Joint Airdrop Inspector; and operate heavy equipment and motor vehicles - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT Standing, stooping, and bending are involved in carrying out work. Also involved are tiring movements such as stretching and lifting. When working in close areas, uncomfortable positions are sometimes necessary. Tools, parts, components, and meters that weigh up to 5 kilograms (10 pounds) are frequently lifted. On occasion, some items weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds) are removed, lifted, and installed. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is done inside well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work outside is normally done in good weather; however, emergency situations sometimes require working outside in bad weather. There is a possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises while working with wire, power tools, and electronic parts.
