The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Directorate of Engineering is seeking a technically proficient and operationally oriented Intermediate Aerospace or Electrical Engineer with a keen interest in research, test design, analysis and assessment to lead and contribute to multiple comprehensive assessments across the Missile Defense System. The candidate selected will work closely with fellow FFRDC, UARC, government, and contractor team members to address pertinent performance concerns and evaluate innovative solutions. Responsibilities include maintaining the technical quality of products and deliverables, supporting the Project Leader for strategic work-shaping, and aiding in sponsor relationship management.
The successful candidate will serve as a technical lead and subject matter expert for the areas of experimental design, analysis, and overall assessment. The primary focus will be to develop and execute assessment requirements, plans, and conclusions which support decisions to improve the Missile Defense System (MDS) operational baseline. Technical duties will also include accurate evaluation of component and system level support to multiple Combatant Commands (CCMDs) in relation to operational needs and evolving adversarial threat capabilities.
As a key technical contributor within the MDA work program, the individual selected will provide guidance in the domains of sensor and interceptor testing and performance characterization to enable the sponsor to successfully recommend deployment of new and improved capabilities to the applicable warfighters.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Serve as technical assessment lead for Defense of Homeland (DoH) and/or Defense of USINDOPACOM systems through performance characterization of impacts to MDS based on prioritized threat effects, RF sensor and weapon system capabilities, and Space Domain Awareness (SDA) missionsLead collaborative efforts with USNORTHCOM, USSPACECOM and US Space Force (USSF) to collectively plan and execute various tests and analysis efforts to evaluate mission capabilities in operationally relevant conditions.Develop test requirements associated with developmental capabilities supporting aforementioned combatant commands with characterization of performance deltas to existing capabilitiesServe as a subject matter expert (SME) of regional and strategic threat electronic attack capabilities and cruise missile systems and tactics in relation to MDS capabilitiesCreate assessment plan including testing methodology to inform stakeholders of performance in electronic attack environment while performing multiple missile defense operations in specified combatant commandsRead and translate intelligence assessments of threat capabilities into test requirements for system performanceUnderstand Model and Simulation (M&S) limitations in order to inform data resource requirementsPlan, execute, and deliver MDS technical assessments for Operational Capability Baseline (OCB) DecisionsEvaluate and capture performance impacts to Combatant Command (CCMD) infrastructure and operational capabilitiesProvide technical advisement for requirements, testing, and modeling and simulation to support capability assessment across the missile defense kill-chainWork across MDA directorates to leverage MITRE Portfolio knowledge and resources, to ensure consistency of effort, and alignment of capability improvementsBasic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 2 years or related experience with a Bachelor's degree Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or similar STEM field.Active DoD Secret clearance with ability the ability to obtain a TS/SCIDoD Radar system or missile system threat experienceDemonstrate adaptability and flexibility to execute independently across a diverse set of thought leaders and stakeholdersSelf-starter and effective time management skills.Ability to lead technical team, directing tasks (in coordination with the Project Leader) to ensure timely, effective sponsor impact.This position has an on-site requirement of 5 days a week on-site.Preferred Qualifications:
