Aerospace FEA-Structural Analyst - Onsite or Remote
Intergalactic
Intergalactic is a team of engineers, technologists, designers, mathematicians, and problem solvers committed to a singular idea: reviving the no-boundaries mentality in aerospace. We are a team of the nation's best, regardless of where we live.
The Aerospace Structural/Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Analyst provides analytical modeling capabilities to the systems engineering team by leading structural static and dynamic and fatigue analysis to meet component, system, and customer requirements. In cooperation with the Program Management team, the Aerospace Structural/FEA Analyst leads and executes structural modeling and analysis efforts. This role is responsible for structural requirements compliance assessment, interpreting and analyzing test data, synthesizing test data and correlating structure models, building up and maintaining structural models. During the program, the Aerospace Structural/FEA Analyst will work with a multi-disciplinary project team of subject matter experts in fields such as such as thermal/aerospace analysis, installation, mechanical design and analysis, reliability, controls, electronics and software, and testing.
Expected Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities
Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the following essential functions.
+ Assisting the System Engineer with developing the program's system architecture and technical approach. This can include structural analysis and recommendations for mounting interfaces.
+ Identify and manage program's technical risks as it pertains to structural requirements.
+ Serve as technical lead for structural modeling and analysis, provide clear objectives that are measurable and attainable, and coordinate modeling and analysis activities with other engineering functional groups.
+ Work closely with the Systems Engineer and Program Manager to ensure successful execution of modeling, analysis, and testing development for programs.
+ Manage structural technical requirements and assist the program Systems Engineer in their requirements traceability, decomposition, derivation, and verification & validation.
+ Verify/validate structural design of containment features such as housing and fasteners that are of sheet metal, billet metals, and composite materials.
+ Allocate and decompose high-level requirements into lower-level specifications to internal functional groups, components, and suppliers as applicable for structural requirements.
+ Using structural analysis artifacts, provide design recommendations to the design and systems engineers to best be compliant to customer and system requirements while optimizing for SWaPC.
+ Researching and recommending investments or changes in technology, methodology, toolsets, procedures, equipment, systems, etc. to continually improve the discipline health and the Intergalactic's products and services.
+ Communicate and collaborate with customers and suppliers as part of design development process.
+ Review and approve documentation for transition from prototype to production.
+ Provide engineering support to trouble shoot and diagnose non-performing products (RCCA, lessons learned, etc.).
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3-5 years of experience as an FEA Structural Analyst.
+ Level of hire commensurate with experience and knowledge in aerospace engineering, designing, analyzing, testing, integrating, qualifying, and fielding products.
+ Excellent written and verbal communication.
+ Working knowledge of key aerospace technical disciplines including requirements management, technical verification and validation methodologies, mechanical design, materials, modeling/documentation, structural analysis, electrical systems, development testing and analysis, qualification analysis and testing.
+ Deep expertise in structural analysis including static and dynamic analysis for structural and electronic components such as:
+ Proof and burst pressure static analysis
+ Dynamic analysis for vibration
+ Dynamic analysis for operational and crash shock
+ Thermal expansion analysis
+ Fatigue analysis
+ PCBA solder joint fatigue analysis (Steinberg Fatigue analysis)
+ Expertise in FEA software, preferably Ansys
+ Excellent interpersonal relationship building both internally and externally.
+ Familiarity of aerospace requirements management methodologies and processes - traceability, decomposition, derivation verification, and validation.
+ Functional understanding of major aircraft systems: environmental control systems, powerplant, electrical, hydraulics, controls, avionics, power generation, and structures.
+ Experience with Vapor Cycle Systems (VCS), Liquid Cooling Systems (LCS) and/or Air Cycle Systems (ACS)
+ Modeling experience and working knowledge of the physics of standard components in VCS, LCS, and ACS such as heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, valves, motor and motor controllers, water collectors/separators, etc.
+ Familiarity with environmental testing and qualification methods such as MIL-STD-810 and DO-160
+ Highly proficient with CAD (preferably in SolidWorks).
+ Working understanding of coding/scripting experience (preferably in MATLAB/Simulink or Python).
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
+ Independent initiative.
+ Productive collaboration.
+ A polite, helpful, and friendly demeanor.
Additional Qualifications
+ Must be 18 years of age or older.
+ Must pass a background check and drug screen upon offer of employment.
Expected Hours of Work
+ Schedule may vary during the hours of Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm. Some flexibility in schedule is allowed with prior approval, but dependability and punctuality are paramount. Salaried crew members are generally expected to work a baseline of 40 hours per week, although a priority is placed on achieving results rather than tracking time.
Supervisory Responsibility
+ The Aerospace Structural/Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Analyst has indirect supervisory responsibility for crew members in their programs.
Physical Requirements
+ This role requires sitting, walking, or standing for several hours at a time.
Work Environment
+ This job operates in an indoor office environment and routinely interacts with other crew members and customers. This role routinely uses both paper and electronic record keeping systems and communication equipment.
Travel Requirements
+ Travel may be infrequently required for this position.
Work Authorization
Eligibility to work in the United States is required, as is compliance with U.S. export control regulations.
