Aerospace Mechanical Engineer - Onsite
Intergalactic is a team of engineers, technologists, designers, mathematicians, and problem solvers committed to a singular idea: reviving the no-boundaries mentality in aerospace. We are a team of the nation's best, regardless of where we live. The Mechanical Engineer will work through all product life cycles of mechanical engineering from research and development to design , assembly integration and test, through systems integration, and final commission of the mechanical hardware and equipment . Expected Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities + Reasonable accommodations will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the following essential functions. + Be part of a team that designs, validates and verifies mechanical and electromechanical products and systems by decomposing high level requirements, generating product specifications, designing components, and designing and developing analysis or testing specifications and methods for verification. + Work with a design team to create design sketches, layouts, and plans. + Use computer-aided design (CAD) software to create preliminary and detailed drawings of the product. + Evaluate mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs and applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, stress and structural analysis, machine elements, and materials. + Confirm system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods and properties. + Develop mechanical and electromechanical products by working with the Systems Engineer to decompose customer requirements to component / subsystem requirements; research and test manufacturing and assembly methods and materials; and drive feedback and improvements into the design cycle by soliciting observations from operators. + Generate working prototypes for beta testing and customer demonstration. + Develop manufacturing processes by designing and modifying equipment for fabricating, building, assembling, and installing components. + Assure system and product quality by designing testing methods; test finished products and verify system capabilities and requirements; and confirm fabrication, assembly, and installation processes. + Generate and prepare test reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing test results and trends. + Be responsive in providing engineering information to relevant stakeholders when requested . + Maintain product and company reputation by complying with government regulations. + Keep equipment operational by coordinating maintenance and repair services, following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures, and requesting special services. + Maintain system and product database as needed. + Train, guide, and work with engineering technicians to complete projects. + Ensure within scope engineering projects' timeline are met and stays within budget. + Maintains technical knowledge and professional ties by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies. + Help with business development and proposal activities by responding to RFIs and RFPs and provide estimates for costs of components. + Develop and help improve methodologies in the Model Based Systems Engineering approach that intergalactic uses for all of its problems. + Travel independently and perform tests per military standards at external testing facilities. + Perform other duties as assigned. Required Experience and Education + Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. + 1-5+ years of mechanical engineering experience. + Experience with design and testing of VCS assemblies, heat exchangers, pumps, compressors, turbines, fans, valves, manifolds, ducts, heaters is preferred. + Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Excellent written and verbal communication. + Awareness of key aerospace technical disciplines including mechanical design, materials, modeling/documentation, structural analysis, thermal fluid sciences, electrical systems, system controls, embedded controls, development testing and analysis, qualification analysis and testing. + Excellent interpersonal relationship building with internal and external stakeholders. + Experience and strong knowledge of CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) + General understanding of basic coding/scripting ( preferable in MATLAB or Python) + Experience with hydraulics/refrigerant lab equipment maintenance. + Working knowledge about technical documentation including writing test procedures, test reports, and engineering changes. + Ability to innovate and develop solutions on their own independent initiative. Needs to be self-driven. + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. + Ability to adjust technical flow of information for different audiences and excellent presentation skills. + Ability to identify key blockers in a project or problem at an early phase. Additional Qualifications + Must be 18 years of age or older. Work Authorization Eligibility to work in the United States is required, as is compliant with U.S. export control regulations.
