The Coles Own Brand Sustainable Sourcing team plays a critical role and pride themselves on driving sustainable sourcing standards for improved sustainability outcomes to provide leading food, drink and home solutions that are delicious, sustainable and healthy for our customers.

About the role

 

You will work closely with and report into the Sustainable Sourcing Manager – Agriculture to help deliver our Own Brand Sustainable Sourcing strategy. You will be the company’s agricultural subject matter expert with a focus on sustainability and animal welfare. Further, you will be the custodian of Coles’ agricultural standards and policies.

 

On a day-to-day basis you will work on the development of policies and their governance programs to further our sustainability strategy; provide agricultural technical guidance to internal stakeholders; and collaborate with famers/suppliers/industry stakeholders on key areas of sustainability.

 

You’ll also:

 

Support with the development of sourcing standards within agriculture that will drive improved sustainability credentials and stakeholder perceptions to support Coles’ ambition to become Australia’s most sustainable supermarket. Train technical teams and suppliers on Coles’ standards whilst embedding compliance requirements with the Central Quality Team. Manage ongoing compliance and audits of key agricultural supply chains (e.g. Coles Farm Program). Be responsible for the day-to-day management of internal & external stakeholders. Engage and collaborate strategically and proactively with internal stakeholders & suppliers to deliver the product plan. Deliver supplier accountability and performance programs across different areas including animal welfare, sustainability, quality and safety. Support Coles Business Units on setting and delivering comprehensive agriculture related projects.

In turn, you will be able to have significant impact on supply chains to drive the positive sustainability outcomes of thousands of products Australia wide.

 

Furthermore, this role requires the job holder to undertake regular travel (including interstate) for which a driver’s license is a requirement.

 

About you and your skills

 

We are looking for someone who has relevant agricultural industry experience and/or holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Science, Veterinary Science or a related field. A sound level of expertise agricultural production systems (animals/plants) and an understanding of traceability programmes and verification will be advantageous.

 

You’ll also need:

Strong inter-personal skills. Proven ability to engage internal and external stakeholders. Strong planning and time management skills. Exposure to supplier management, investigations, audit responses and data analysis.
