Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Three years of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer commissioned with the power of arrest; OR
A bachelor’s degree in agricultural sciences, veterinary science, forestry, or in a biological science or a criminal justice field.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
A drug screen and background check will be administered prior to employment.
Successful completion of a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification within 6 months of employment.

To provide protection of life and/or property through enforcement of criminal statutes related to agriculture and forestry lands and activities.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Agriculture/Forestry Enforcement Officer 2 by the absence of authority to perform duties independently at the experienced level.
Examples of Work
Incumbent of this position acts as lead worker over other lower level Police Officer positions. Serves as Point of Contact for shift assigned. May provide functional supervision during shift assigned. Reports to an Agriculture/Forestry Enforcement Supervisor.

Physical security and safety of LDAF facilities. This is accomplished by various methods, which include, but are not limited to:
Access control of persons and vehicles; vehicle and foot patrol; monitoring of close circuit television surveillance (CCTV); stationary post during special meetings, hearings, and events; response to emergencies; and intervenes in crisis situations involving the public and state employees.

Writing of reports regarding security and safety. This includes, but is not limited to: investigative reports, security logs, access logs, accident reports, desk logs, and daily activity reports.

Receives emergency calls related to LDAF 24-hour monitoring. Disseminates information received to the appropriate personnel. Calls received on the 24-hour hotline are typically regarding forest fires and agricultural related crimes.

Monitors safety-related building issues including, but not limited to: lighting, emergency response equipment, temperature of refrigerated warehouse, and emergency generator power availability.
Additional Requirements:
Incumbent must annually complete a minimum of 16 hours of instruction, plus 8 hours of firearms training. Failure to meet the required annual training requirements may result in separation of service. Instruction hours may include but will not be limited to the following: Legal aspects, customer service, incident response, security resources and observation, and first aid training.
This position is eligible for the Hazardous Duty Services Retirement Plan.
This position has powers of arrest and requires that the incumbent be POST certified.
