SALARY:  $75,000-$90,000, bonus eligible

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Agronomist promotes rice production in their respective region and owns the relationship between Anheuser-Busch and the farmer, supporting the farmer in the technical and commercial aspects of rice production. The Agronomist is responsible for working with the Rice Agronomy Manager, university extension and other local industry stakeholders to provide recommendations and best practices to farmers. The Agronomist will also identify, lead and implement on-farm pilots and trials on the leading edge of agricultural innovation. The Agronomist is also responsible for providing feedback to assist in the development of the commercial buying strategy, securing volume through contracts, and coordinating rice delivery to Anheuser-Busch’s milling facility.  To ensure the long-term security of these supply chains, the Agronomist aids in the development of farmer programs that address farmer profitability and environmental sustainability and is responsible for program execution and farmer adoption.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Secure ABI’s rice supply (quality and quantity) in the short and long term, focusing on reduction of risk due to climate, environment, markets and competing crops

Represent ABI in all interactions with farmers and the local farming community

Understand the region from an agronomic, economic, and environmental perspective and provide insights back to zone to be used in the development of the commercial policy, as well as inform the company’s sustainability and Sustainable Agriculture strategies.

Be the trusted advisor and regional expert, promoting rice development by supporting farmers across operations to achieve greater profitability and environmental sustainability

Serve as the central point of contact for all interfaces with farmers. As necessary, collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to ensure appropriate responses and communications.

Advise farmers on crop management and share best practices as a local “rice expert” to drive productivity, efficiency, and quality

Collaborate with Zone/Global Procurement Teams and other Agronomists to develop and execute farmer programs and projects that drive economic, social, and environmental shared value.

Collect farm-level data and provide insights and recommendations back to the farmer

Participate in the development of the Agritask digital data platform, implement digital tools with farmers and provide feedback to Global Procurement and Solutions teams to drive future development

Assist with accurate, timely financial forecasts and LE’s related to our purchases

Assist with the monthly forecasting and actual performance to the budget; working with internal teams to understand and minimize financial variances

Influence farmers to grow rice and execute the contracts (creation, pricing, overall management)

Organize and ensure rice delivery in coordination with the mill receiving team

Identify and develop new rice production areas and new farmers to meet volume and quality needs as aligned with commercial needs

Develop the variety/practice strategy for the region in coordination with the Zone Agro Director and Rice Agronomy Manager to ensure the development of best management practices

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

University Degree or higher (agronomy degree preferred)

Fluent in local language and proficient in English

Excellent communication skills: written, verbal and presentation

Appropriate mix of technical (agronomic), sales and management skills

Self-starter who can take ownership and work independently

Curious and strong willingness to learn

Strong problem solving and analytical skills

Strong people skills and ability to work with teams and many stakeholders

Ability to differentiate between conflicting priorities and issues to identify underlying causes

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and assess priorities effectively

Consistently exhibits company values in all interactions with associates and customers

PC skills (MS PowerPoint, Excel & Office)
