We’re hiring for Agronomy Specialist (Greenhouses and irrigation) – Delmas.

As Agronomy Specialist you will be responsible for the overall planning, coordination and execution of all greenhouse and irrigation activities for the site, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence in a seed product development environment. You will work with a diverse range of people, cultures, research programs and operations to plan, execute and optimize a high precision research greenhouse operation.

This position will require excellent collaboration, planning and management skills and the ability to work in a dynamic multidisciplinary setting managing stakeholder needs in an ever-changing technology environment.

You Will Be Part of Growing Team  

The Seed Product Development team is responsible for designing, developing and executing the Corteva Agriscience™ research programs which advance genetic gain and develop seed products to bring to market. The team you will be working in supports the Africa Middle East Seed Product Development teams.

  

Your Challenge: 

Responsible to ensure all Greenhouses operates at optimum capacityManagement of the plants in greenhouses.Management of weed control, disease and- pest control, irrigation, fertilization/crop nutrition and sanitization in greenhouses.Operate and manage automatic potting equipment and advanced irrigation systemsResponsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the greenhousesTimely ordering of soil, fertilizer, paraffin and keeping greenhouse stock up to date.Lead and participate in process improvement and internal research projectsCollaborate with global greenhouse teams to implement new and improved processes and ideas.Maintain an appropriate log and inventory of chemicals, fertilizer, pesticide, herbicide and supplies for efficient completion of greenhouse activitiesProvide daily feedback and support to necessary stakeholdersWork with Genetically Modified Organisms in accordance with government regulations and internal company policiesScouting and identifying early signs of pests, diseases or any unwanted infestationsWill need to work with vendors to order or organize greenhouse needs in a cost-effective manner.Will be required to ensure boilers, paraffin pumps, greenhouse structures, water and fertilizer equipment are maintained.Will be responsible for the irrigation of the farm – Liners & PivotsResponsible for optimization and improvement of greenhouse operations.Planning and coordination of greenhouse activities, connecting with stakeholdersWill be an owner of the fall protection safety programs to ensure working at heights are done safely and other related safety programsWill be required to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic and physical environments, including outdoors and in hot, humid greenhousesWill be required to do come in over weekends or after hours if there is a problem

To Grow What Matters, You Will Need  

BSc in horticulture, agronomy, plant biology or related discipline or equivalent experience in a related field, with at least 5 years of greenhouse/field experienceExperience with maize will be beneficialA driving license is necessary. Proven ability to make timely decisions, solve problems and build consensusExcellent interpersonal/communication skills are required for fostering teamwork, enhancing a good working environment, and effectively developing strong working relationships with a diverse group of peopleAbility to supervise and prioritize multiple tasks is criticalTechnical and mechanical skills are requiredExperience in automatic greenhouse irrigation systems is requiredProficiency in Office software such as spreadsheets, mail, calendar and presentation software.Always comply with safety regulations and country lawsWorking overtime when the task requiresAbility to work outside in all kinds of weatherValid driver’s license is required
