FT acts as a strategic partner to support the executive units of Siemens. In consequence the main research focus is on future technologies for industry, infrastructure, mobility, and healthcare. In this context, we are looking for an Intern that supports our Software Systems and Processes team in Princeton, NJ by researching and developing scalable intelligent systems using LLMs and semantic technologies.
In this role you will work on-site in Princeton, NJ. The position is a fulltime position for at least 3 months and remote work is not available.
Role Summary
In this internship, we are looking for a motivated and talented student with experience in AI development to develop AI-driven solutions that leverage Large Language Models (LLMs), ML models, ontologies, and knowledge graphs to improve knowledge discovery, question-answering, and information retrieval. The internship provides a unique experience to contribute to innovative industrial applications while mentored by experienced professionals in an international setting. The position is a full-time role for at least 3 months and can be executed remotely, however on-site at Princeton, NJ is preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Research into how LLMs and/or ML models can be leveraged for building and extending ontologies and knowledge graphs.Apply latest advancements in knowledge representation and semantic technologies.Collaborate with domain and subject matter experts to implement and automate ontology creation process.Develop pipelines and tools to ingest data from diverse data sources into a knowledge representation.Fine tune foundational large language models (LLM) or train ML models to augment knowledge representation and data retrieval process.Setup model training, testing pipelines. Develop and deploy AI Agentic Workflows.Document your findings, architecture, results as a publishable scientific paper.Education and Experience
Required: Enrolled in Computer science or engineering master’s program.Preferred: Enrolled in a PhD program with the background in artificial intelligence, computer science, or a related field.Basic Qualifications
Fluent in English. Strong background in knowledge representation and semantic technologies (e.g., RDF, SPARQL, OWL).Experience with fine tuning of LLM (e.g., LoRA) and training/testing ML models.Basic understanding transformer-based models, attention mechanisms, and the latest LLM architectures (GPT, BERT, encoder-decoder). Proficient in Python and ML frameworks (e.g., Pytorch, HF transformers or similar).Experience with Vector Databases (e.g., Pinecone, Milvus, Weaviate, Chroma or other).Experience with LLM evaluation frameworks (e.g., Opik).Preferred Skills
Ability to quicky learn to use new technologies and frameworks.Experience with graph databases (e.g., Neo4j, AWS Neptune) and knowledge graph toolset (e.g. Altair Graph Studio).Experience with AI Agentic frameworks and platforms (e.g., LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, NeMo).Experience with MLOps/LLMOps.Experience with RAG frameworks.Experience in deploying and serving LLM (e.g., vLLM). Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.Work setting
The position does require the person to be in the United States of America and hold a valid work permit for the US.
