We are seeking a motivated and innovative student intern to join our team and apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to support long-term transmission planning studies. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and power system planning, contributing to a sustainable and reliable energy future.
The intern will collaborate with experienced engineers and researchers to develop AI/ML models that enhance the efficiency and accuracy of transmission planning processes.
Ideal Skills and Experience:
Familiarity in applying AI or statistical modeling for time series forecasting, particularly in energy sector applications
Experience performing statistical analysis of large data sets
Familiarity with simulation tools such as PSS®E, PSLF, or similar platforms
Experience developing and running ACPF and ACOPF simulations
Completed coursework in power systems analysis, stability, and control is preferred
Familiar with voltage stability concepts, transfer capability, and contingency analysis
Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for automating analyses
Knowledge of NERC reliability standards and criteria
Exposure to renewable energy systems and inverter-based resources
Excellent analytical and creative problem solving skills
Enthusiasm for learning and applying cutting-edge technologies in power systems
The hourly rate range for Student positions are:
Undergraduate: $16-29 per hourMasters: $25-31 per hourPh.D: $27-34 per hourThese ranges are an estimate, and the actual hourly rate may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The hourly rate may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
As an EPRI Student, you will not participate in EPRI’s Benefit Programs which includes health insurance, retirement benefits, vacation, sick leave (except as set required by law) and holiday pay. However, as a Student employee you are eligible for the benefits of Social Security, State Disability Insurance, and Workers’ Compensation Insurance.
For Student positions which require one to relocate to an EPRI office. Relocation assistance is not provided and the student will be responsible for covering all relocation costs/expenses.
