AileyCamp is an innovative summer program for youth ages 11-14 that uses disciplined dance training, creative writing instruction, personal development, and communication workshops to help campers develop a respect for themselves and others that meaningfully impacts their lives. Alvin Ailey believed that "dance is for everybody" and was especially dedicated to using dance to enhance the lives of underserved children. AileyCamp represents a vital continuation of Alvin Ailey's vision, using the power of dance to enrich and positively alter the lives of children. Conceived by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and run locally by Peabody Preparatory, AileyCamp combines professional-level dance training with personal development activities. Duties: + Teach1-4 dance technique classes per day, Monday - Friday between 8:30 am - 3:30 pm. + Choreograph for the final camp presentation in consultation with the Camp Director, Camp Administrator, and other faculty. + Participate in lunch duty, free periods, and general supervision of campers when not teaching in class. + Participate and supervise campers as directed on field trips. + Participate in all rehearsal, preparation, and day-of-final performance activities. + Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings (3:30 - 4:30 pm) and individual meetings with the Camp Director. + Provide the Camp Director with a written evaluation of the student's progress. + Provide the Camp Director with a schedule of proposed class content. + Dress in the Camp staff uniform neatly and cleanly, ensuring clothing and costumes do not contain inappropriate references for children (alcohol, drugs, profanity, etc.). + Attend a mandatory staff orientation. + Professional performing experience in West African dance and/or a bachelor's degree in Dance desired. + Documented successful teaching experience required. + Preferred qualifications: success in teaching classes in a pre-professional dance program; experience setting and being a rehearsal director for repertory pieces; experience preparing pre-professional students for performances.
