AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (2 VACANCIES)
Summary IOWA AIR NATIONAL GUARD - TITLE 5 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION This position is open to current military members of the 185th ARW, Iowa Air National Guard LOCATION: 185th ARW, Sioux City, Iowa Responsibilities As a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC (2 VACANCIES), WG-8852-11 your duties are below. 1. Directs, monitors or performs overall maintenance, servicing, inspections and documentation for one or more aircraft. Work is performed in complex working conditions under time and/or mission constraints. Performs aircraft inspections requirement such as preflight/postflight and end of runway inspections. Performs aircraft ground handling procedures such as launching, recovering, towing, safe for maintenance, fueling and defueling aircraft and any other maintenance tasks needed to maintain the aircraft. Prepares aircraft for painting by washing, cleaning, lubricating, masking off, scuff sanding and jacking aircraft. Coordinates and oversees the work of journey level workers in other trades working simultaneously on the assigned aircraft. Coordinates with production control to direct short notice availability of the aircraft to accomplish work on delayed discrepancies and other scheduled maintenance to meet mission requirements. Observes and inspects performance and work procedures to ensure compliance with applicable technical publications, directives and local policy. Maintains and services aircraft systems such as engine oil, hydraulic, fuel, oxygen and any other type of fluids. Removes and installs aircraft external fuel tank and travel pod. (35%) 2. Installs, removes, inspects and adjusts aerial delivery systems to mission requirements. Removal, installation and rigging of the A-10 flight control surfaces. Balancing the A-10 flight control surfaces on special balancing tables. Maintains and services all paint facility support equipment and vehicles. Insures equipment and tools are kept in serviceable condition after uses. Prepares and installs decals on painted aircraft. Ensures that technical data is followed when performing maintenance on aircraft and support equipment. Identifies and maintains recordsand controls the storage and disposal of hazardous material. Performs in-booth assistance to Sheet Metal Mechanics as required. (25%) 3. Complies with safety, fire, security, environmental and housekeeping regulations. Ensures that material and equipment are properly and safely protected and maintained. Prepares and maintains all aircraft, support equipment and paint facility documentation needed to operate in a safe manner. Maintains and files aircraft and support equipment technical data. Insures that personnel working with you wear the appropriate safety equipment and/or personal protective equipment for the task assigned. Insures that all prescribed safety, fire, security and local written directive are followed. Ensures work areas are kept safe from any hazards and cleaned after each workday. Conducts equipment and tool inventory for accountability after each task. Assists supervisor by instructing employees, answering questions and balancing out the workload. Advises the supervisor on aircraft or equipment status and progress of the job. Prepares for and participate in various inspections by different organizations.(20%) 4. Inspects and determines if A-10, F-15, F-16 and H-60 aircraft have been properly prepared and are ready to be painted. Assists in aircraft depaint/paint operations. Maintains respirator qualification and follows hazardous waste procedures. (20%) 5. Performs other duties as assigned. SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENT: Employment is subject to attaining and maintaining a clearance as required by this position. If the selectee does not possess the applicable security clearance when hired, application must be made within 30 days of the start date. Failure to make application for the required security clearance will result in termination of employment. Failure to complete prescribed courses may be cause for reassignment or termination of FTS. 1. The incumbent must obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance. 2. The incumbent will be required to be qualified to wear a respirator and pass a respirator fit test. 3. The incumbent will be required to wear required special protective clothing, such as coats, boots, and/or respirator/paint hoods and may be exposed to high levels of noise such as aircraft engines. 4. The work may require the incumbent to drive a motor vehicle and if so, an appropriate valid driver's license is mandatory. 5. May require travel in military and/or commercial aircraft to perform temporary duty assignments. 6. May occasionally work other than normal duty hours. 7. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG. Qualifications In describing your experience, please be clear and specific. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: WG-8852-11: Must have experience in the following: Positions at this grade level may include performing duties as a dedicated crew chief. Other positions may include responsibility for performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers. Some positions may include coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft. Other positions may include serving as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft.
