Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE BARGAINING UNIT POSITION. This position is for an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC, Position Description Number D0100000, and is part of the Montana Air National Guard, 120 MAI SQ. Selecting Official: CMSgt Douglas Koth Responsibilities Performs all phases of the repair and reclamation process for crashed or damaged aircraft utilizing lifting bags, cranes, hoists, slings, forklifts, and other heavy equipment. Maintains and stores the special equipment identified and assigned to the crash recovery mission. Serves on the flight control team and may coordinate team functions. Participates in flight crew debriefing, troubleshooting, repairing: and replacing components as required. Advises on and participates in the removal. rigging, and replacement of flight control surfaces, portable huffet and lavatory units. Utilizes a wide variety of technical gauges, instruments and tools such as bead breakers, micrometers, dial indicators. pressure gauges, torque wrenches, tensiometers, weight and balance testers, and inside and outside calipers to test. overhaul, rig and install major airframe components. Accomplishes organizational and intermediate level maintenance, which involves major repairs, TCTO's, and/or flight controls, landing years. doors and canopies and associated equipment requiring structural or component maintenance beyond the capabilities of other activities. Performs intermediate level maintenance on aircraft wheel and tires and may also accomplish organizational maintenance such as wheel and tire and brake changes. When a supply point for build-up assets is established in the shop, will insure DIF+ assets processing and procedures are accomplished according to applicable directives. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as ORI, II: and LIE inspections, mobility, and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural fire fighting, aircraft fire/ crash/rescue duty. security guard. snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heave equipment operator; maintenance of facilities and equipment. or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Military Grades: E3/A1C - E6/TSgt GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. ***(MUST address your experiences in detail on resume as they relate to these general and specialized experiences to be considered for this position)*** PLACEMENT STATUS/TENURE OF SELECTEE: TEMPORARY PROMOTION/REASSIGNMENT/CHANGE TO LOWER GRADE - For Title 32 permanent selectees only: This is an obligated position. If a permanent employee in the Title 32 Excepted civil service accepts this position, he/she will retain their permanent status AND have rights to return to their previous Title 32 position. TEMPORARY PROMOTION/REASSIGNMENT/CHANGE TO LOWER GRADE - For Title 32 Indefinite selectees only: This is an obligated position. If an indefinite employee (tenure 3) in the Title 32 Excepted civil service accepts this position, he/she will retain their indefinite status AND may return to their previous Title 32 indefinite position if it is still available. INDEFINITE APPOINTMENT - For Current Title 5 selectees only: This is an obligated position. If an on-board employee in the Title 5 excepted civil service accepts this position, he/she will convert to a T32 indefinite appointment (tenure 3). This employee will have no reemployment rights to their previous T5 position. INDEFINITE APPOINTMENT - State National Guard Members (includes T32 NTE employees and MTNG members not currently a federal employee): This is an obligated position. Selectee will be appointed as an indefinite employee (tenure 3).
