About the Position: The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance. Responsibilities Serve as working leader of 3 or more employees in accomplishing trades and labor work. Check work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Operate the Whirl Tower by performing dynamic balancing tests. Complete a startup and daily inspection according to Operators Procedures to operate the whirl tower facility. Perform repair/overhaul of rotor blades which involves a wide variety of repairs. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Aircraft Mechanical Test Operator Leader (Sheetmetal Mechanic) without more than normal supervision. Your resume must indicate your ability to lead or supervise. Experience operating aviation test stands, machinery or whirl tower to ensure the equipment has met its requirements. Experience in the repair/overhaul of rotor blades and components.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability to lead or supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Use of Measuring Instruments PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires frequent lifting of heavy parts up to up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. Lifts heavier items using jacks, hoists or helpers; and torque to high torque values in and around 100-1000 ft. pounds. Moderately heavy physical effort in the frequent use of tiring works positions including but not limited to climbing stairs, working at heights up to 60 ft, and requires operation of elevator to reach platform 60 feet off ground. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in Tower areas and occasionally on flight line. Exposed to oil, grease, and cleaning solvents. Exposed to hazard of parts and components being moved through working areas by hoists and dollies. Subject to work in or around noise-hazardous area. As a test cell operator, works in an instrumented control room and utilizes a hydraulic elevator to go up in the air to attach rotor blades and make blade adjustments. Work inside the Whirl Tower employee is exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. Outside may work in hot or cold weather. They are frequently exposed to possibility of receiving cuts, bumps, bruises and strains while repairing, positioning, adjusting and moving blades and are exposed to skin irritations from acids, fluids and lubricants. To reduce the dangers and irritations from the above conditions, the mechanics follow numerous safety procedures and wear equipment such as protective eye-glasses, ear devices, hard hats, hard-toe shoes, gloves, clothing and safety harness required. Safety items may be uncomfortable to wear or used and may be worn or used for long periods. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This is a Functional Career (FC) 17 - Materiel Maintenance Management position. You may claim military spouse preference (MSP).
